I was just informed by a friend that in North Carolina that starting this year you can now hunt on sunday's and hunt with a crossbow...I was just wondering how true this was? Does anyone know for sure?

I thought crossbow was only for people with a documented physical handicap...you mean anyone can use one now?

Anyone can use a crossbow now in PA as well. I think its ridiculous. Thats like hunting with a gun during archery season. Its much easier to aim and shoot a crossbow than to draw and aim a real bow.

"Its much easier to aim and shoot a crossbow than to draw and aim a real bow."

Therein lies the appeal.

I don't have either so doesn't matter to me, was just wondering about it.

NC has a severe deer overpopulation problem. There's a raft of new rules coming in this season, including no limits on does, expanded bow seasons, Sunday hunting, etc. Supposedly the "authorities" have also reintroduced cougars into selected areas as a control experiment... There have been reports of a rash of cougar sightings in the local paper... The "authorities" say "not true"...

No offense to you BPL, but Hunters in Pennsylvania have a lot of hangups.

Its a wondering ya'll haven't lost the right completely, what with the overwhelming nature of nearly every Pennsylvania hunter I've ever had the misfortune of dealing with to criticize everything that isn't their preferred hunting preference.

You have no idea how wrong your statement really is. We as hunters should not be at odd's on what type of weapon one use's period. If you like or don't like a any type of weapon then simply don't use what it is you don't like and let others do the same.

AMEN!!! As long as it is deemed legal and ethical by a higher authority such as State Government, Fish and Wildlife Departments ...etc.

wonder if these laws will stick around for a few years...I will def have to get a crossbow. But there is a real overpopulation of whitetail ecspecially in halifax county.

bpl If you can't draw and pull a bow easily then your shooting to much pull. You should be able to pull your bow sitting in the cold and hold that bow for a couple minutes. Maybe a cross bow is better for some. Id don't want one but for those that do get it and hunt.

"NC has a severe deer overpopulation problem."

I'm not doubting you, but where I live (Buncombe County) that's news to me. I guess this overpopulation problem must be well east of me.

Everyone I know that hunts goes either to SC or GA...so it must not be that big of a problem.

If you can't draw and pull a bow easily then your shooting to much pull
or all the tendons in my shoulder got fraid and my bicep got ripped and now due to how wonderful workers comp is my other shoulder suffers from massive tendonises. And untill you have hunted with a crossbow to find out it's not as easy as you think it is, you will find that it has alot more limits than a bow does. Range is not as far, alot more weight, much larger and more cumbersome to carry, and so on....

Kanook If you have a medical problem thats some different ,by your cross bow and crank up your bow and hunt You could also try swapping sides if your lucky ,i have one buddy that f'd up his shoulder and it about useless after to rounds with his doctor and gets some disability but can shoot right handed instead of left left and at 45 lbs pull so give that a try. What i said is still right if you can pull a bow then your shooting to much pull.--------------dulh I'm in yancey county and know what you mean about deer over here. Now go to the north east corner and it can be very diffent. We had a lease in bertie county and you could set out there and in a days time see maybe 25+ deer aday. Of those maybe 4 to 5 shooter bucks , atleast what most over this way would call shooters. Dumbies over here would shot anything with horns and don't report most of them. I have a ten point ,small but still a ten and 6 does that were around my little corner of the mountains last year .Just start'n to see them this year bucks still nubbies.

just a little info for you NC guys......

you can find this info in the july issue of NC Sportsman page 15. the WildLife Commission propossed the bill (S7) to hunt with a gun on Sunday but that bill missed a deadline due to the number of people that opposed the bill. Basically it got shot dead in the water for the rest of the 2009 session.

As for Sunday archery...... That crossbow legislation for right now is hung up too. Before you decide to by one read the article for found on page 18 of the NC Sportsman July issue.

HA! I had to laugh when I read that. As a PA hunter I have to agree completely with your assessment of the majority of PA hunters.

What's the deal with this no hunting on Sundays thing back east? That strikes me as pure industrial strength dumb! Allowing the average joe to hunt 1 day a week is insane and unjust. Hell, it's bad enough to only get 2 days a week, 5 work. I've always wondered why you guys don't do something about this hipocracy.

its the bible belt. old timers always saved Sunday for church and believe that it truely was a day of rest. if they open Sundays up.... ill still go to church but church is from 10:30 to 12 ish..... theres still a lot of daylight left.

I don't understand the hatred of crossbows. Cars and trucks harvest deer 24/7 on public roads, but who's complaining about a Honda Civic vs a Ford F150?

If someone wants to go sit in the church house, fine! Let 'em go! But why the hell have some antiquated hipocritical law preventing hunting on Sunday? The fact that a guy can't hunt doesn't mean he'll go listen to the preacher. I'd wager that it doesn't accomplish anything beyond preventing guys from enjoying the outdoors. Are there laws against anything else that are Sunday specific? Can you go fishing on Sunday? Why aren't the hunters out in force to get the crooks (politicians) to change the idiotic law?

i dont understand the thing about sunday hunting. always caused problems for me when i was in school since i wouldnt ahve time to go out before school during the week and had homework and a job after school, so i really only had saturday to hunt i hated that. nice now though in college i wont have class on friday so i will have a 3 day week end to comeback home and hunt now i just have to buy a bow

I live in Virginia myself and have had to put up with this all my life.
Every year it get's lobbied to let us hunt on Sunday and every year there is enough stupid can't change Sunday anti's that it never seems to get enough behind pro to make a change. Looks like it's getting closer every year but no cupid doll yet.
