H322 for .223

H322 works very well for the lighter bullets. It was the powder of choice for benchrest competition for 20 years in the 222 rem.
It works great in my 14" Contender 223.
There's a couple good powders by Accurate that do well, and Ramshot Tac that's burns very close to H335 and might be easier to find.

That's too bad you can't get any more H335. I almost ran into the same issue but luckily hit my local shop at the exact moment I ran out of H335 and when the delivery truck landed with some. Needless to say I stocked up. I love H335 in my .223 bolt action and nothing so far can compete.

I will say though that I have tried H322 with some 50gr Vmax's with some very satisfactory results, 3/4" groups at 100yrds. I've been meaning to try it out with some 40gr Sierra Varminters but just haven't gotten around to it. But I would agree that it should be used on your lighter bullets up to 50gr. or so. I've also had ok results with W748 and 52gr. Matchkings. And both H322 and W748 meter very well. Surprisingly H322 meters better than W748 and just as well as H335, if that has any meaning to you.

It's just something you'll have to try for yourself to see if your rifle likes it or not.

Almost forgot, but for some reason I have noticed that H322 heats my barrel up much fast than H335 loads. Not sure what the reason is but is my experience with it.

If you possibly find any, give Hodgdon's Varget powder a try. It's my powder of choice in my AR with 52 gr match bullets. H322 and H335 are both great powders also, so use what works for you.

It's a great powder and will work in your 223. I shoot a 700VS and I use IMR4895 and hornady 52 grain match bullets with a lot of success but before I used the 4895 I used the H322.

H322 has worked very well for me in reloading .223 loading the 52 grain match bullets. With my short barrel 700LTR the accuracy is great with the 69 Sierra MK.

Meters pretty good too.

I have bought a pound of IMR4895 a while back to try as I thought I wouldn't be able to get some of the powder's that I wanted. I have yet to try it with my rifle. What kind of loading are you using with IMR4895? Does it end up compressed at all? And do you find this powder to be fast enough burning to give decent velocity values with 52gr Match bullets? What do you shoot these loads out of?

I tried H322 before on 40, 50, and 55 grain bullets in 223 got some decent groups from it but not great. Problem was velocity check showed it was down a fair amount. If I tried to get velocity up any more groups opened up to were it was a no go for me.

What load and gun

My Gun is a Remington 700VS. It has a 26 inch barrel with a 1 in 12 or 14 inch twist(factory) and a Jewel 1.5oz trigger(not to worry because it is a bench gun only). The load I shoot is loaded in Remington-peters brass that has been completely match prepped, 25.5 grains of IMR4895 but I don't know the OAL as you will have to check you r gun and adjust it according to your own gun.

H322 will work fine, but I prefer H335 for max velocity and accuracy.
