I've been shooting skeet all summer now. I steadily improved for a while, but seem to have plateaued at 22. I'm extra aggravated tonight because I made it clean to station 6 and dropped the first target there. That flustered me and I proceeded to miss 2 more there:banghead:, and then break em all at 7&8. That was the furthest I've made it without missing, and really thought tonight might be the night.

The thing that kills me is that it's not any particular station. It seems like my brain randomly chooses one (three, actually) to screw up each round.

Anyway. Just needed to vent.

Skeet is a game of knowns...known speed, angles and shooting positions. You know what you need to see on each station for a broken bird...see it and shoot.

Turn on your concentration, shoot, then turn it off until you get to the next station.

You'll get there....keep at it man!

Place your misses into catagories, do you tend to miss more right to left targets or left to right birds????? On which side of the field????? Discounting conditions you should be able to determine if it's stance which has an effect on swing.

Keep at it, there's one in there for everyone!!!!!

I just started shooting skeet myself. I know how you feel. Last week low house was killing me, the week before high house was the demon. Don't let it get to you too much. It is definately a mind game.
The best shooters can hold their concentration and focus. That is the key to running 25. I shoot with guys at my club that have shot 100,000 and more rounds at targets, and they miss too.

Stop counting. Don't over-focus on 25. You can break every target on the field already, just relax and it will come. Positive thoughts only on the station. As soon as you tell yourself "don't miss this one", your brain drops the "don't".

22? Heck, you haven't even got stuck on 24 yet. Don't get ahead of yourself!

Seriously, once you relax and get your first 25, you'll be amazed how easy it is and how many more you'll get.

Relax, and don't get too uptight.

You got to treat it like a big league pitcher in the 8th inning with a no hitter working, don't talk or think about it, just let it happen.

While not a regular skeet shooter, the first time I ever ran 25 I didn't even know what my score was until the end - EVERY time I would get close and start thinking how close I was....BAM lost bird......

DON'T keep score and put extra shells in your pocket so you don't know what your score is until someone tells you at low 8 to shoot again

Concentration and focus need work to become second nature.

After a half century of shotgunning, I'm still working on it.

Take it one shot at a time. The next one is all you should think of.

The straight will happen. Just work on focus,focus,focus.....

That flustered me and I proceeded to miss 2 more there

Dave is right on.

Shoot the bird you're shooting, not the ones you're not.

If you can, forget about all the ones you hit before, and all the ones you will have to shoot after. Forget about your score. Just shoot the bird you're shooting.

That's easier said than done, of course.

Trap is worse. The top guys are the ones who can stand around and get bored silly without losing their focus, then shoot 49 straight without letting the adrenaline screw up their 50th.

Something Jonathan Swift wrote in the 18th Century: "I've always believed no matter how many shots I miss, I'm going to make the next one."
