300 wsm

i like the 300 wsm quite a bit.
i'm a huge fan of the model 7 as well.

put the two together and i'm pretty lukewarm on it... if i'm going to spend the money on an m7, it is because i want a petite, light rifle. i don't like the heavier barrel on the m7.

that said, you won't go wrong w/ this combination. if i were in the market for another 300 wsm, though, i would go w/ a 700 bdl/cdl.

I am also a big fan of the 300WSM. I reload for it using Hornady's 165 gr Interbond, and it is extremely accurate. I have taken numerous hogs and deer, and grab that rifle any chance I can.

I am not a fan of Remington as the only problems I've had with new rifles, have been with two 700s. Remington's customer service and their warranty repair work were extremely lacking. Since Cerberus now owns Remington, hopefully they've changed.

The Tikka T3 in 300 WSM is a good accurate fairly light rifle. To many quality issues with Remington's rifles for me to ever buy another one.

I personally think, if you buy the .300 WSM why not buy something with wayyy better ballistics and cost just as much? .300 Weatherby is your answer. Don't know much about the Model 7.

I regret my .300 wsm... :( I bought a browning A-bolt white gold medallion. Beautiful accurate gun. But looking back on it I should have got a regular .300. It is pretty much just as accurate, and cheaper/ easier to find. If you have money for the cartridges and don't mind the recoil it's perfect though :)

What are your opinions?

How about the Remington Model Seven?

Great caliber, excellent accuracy, plenty of energy ... what's not to like. I particularly like my Remington 700 Alaskan Ti. Here's a typical 5-shot group with 168gr SMK bullets. I'm about to start working up a 150gr SST load for it once I get the DM bottom metal installed.

I have the Model 7 Whitetail in 300WSM and I love it. Haven't had anything wrong with it and its dead on....the shooter causes the errors in my case. I used it last year for black bear and the weight was not bad at all. Beautiful, accurate rifle.

Of all the short magnums the 300 WSM is probably the best one of the lot. I have shot this one and none of the others. I do not deny it does the job but in the end it was an overhyped marketing ploy to create a market and sell a few more rifles. The shop I go to a lot doesnt trade on them because they just sit around and attract dust. Someone will look at it and say I wish it was a 300 Win Mag or a 30-06.

If you never plan to sell it then get it because it has proven to be a good cartridge.

If it were me, would get the 30-06 or 300 Win Mag as I tend to not keep guns for too long. I also am not a fan of the high intensity, high pressure, cartridges with rebated rims. I would prefer somthing with more taper and more room for the extractor to dig into.

Although I am one of those guys that tends to detest anything new in the gun world. Most of the things I prefer are older than me.

about Remington qc issues, I got a 700 in 300WSM and when I brought it home I wanted to see how it cycled. Cycling was not good. In the manual it said the mag capacity was 3+1, so I loaded three in and it would not chamber the first round. I discovered that with two in the box it would cycle better and have noticed since that they changed the mag capacity to 2+1 on their website (or 3 total). That's not the bad part though; when I chambered a round, in my appartment (dumb, I will never do it again) I closed the bolt and before I even took my hand off of the bolt handle it discharged. Clearly I was scared to death, There was a hole in my wall, my ears were ringing, my dog was hiding, and I wasn't sure if I had killed some one. I called the police and they checked around and did their CSI stuff to determine that no one was hurt. Long story short, when I got the gun back from the police I sent it to remington where they examined it and claimed that nothing was wrong but they installed the new X-mark trigger on it anyway (this was before the X-mark was even released to the public) at no charge. That told me that something WAS wrong with the trigger/safety and that their installation of the new trigger/safety was a CYA move. I found out later that my rifle was one of a number of rifles that were sent to a middle man who then decided to do his own trigger work to them. He is an ass, and my charges were dropped because the officer said "the look on his face told me this was not an intentional and thus unlawful discharge in city limits." In conclusion, they do have some issues but their customer service people were terrific even if it was only to avoid litigation. The rifle itself is dead on, the caliber is expensive but wonderful, and I will never load a rifle indoors again. BTW that hasn't happened since the work was done.
