I know this is probably a dumb question but figured someone here would know for sure. I bought a 1026 that is in nearly perfect condition. Someone painted the grips but that was easily fixed with a new set. They also added an extended mag catch. I will just leave that alone. The most unusual thing is that the barrel hood is marked Bar Sto 10mm. So I assume that Smith did not use Bar Sto barrels, correct?

If so I am a bit surprised that the original owner would have replaced the barrel, but given the mag release perhaps thought they were going to use it as some sort of competition pistol. My experience with Smith 10mms is they are quite accurate with the factory barrels.

Regardless, it is a 1026, it was pretty cheap (under $600 out the door), and it looks new save for the barrel and catch. I have been after one for years. Now to get this baby to the range....

:D

Grayrider, the early S&W Performance Center 3rd Gen autos actually did use Bar-Sto barrels, and were not marked with the PC logo. Does your 1026 have a barrel bushing that's retained by a spring detent? What are the first three or four letters or numbers of the serial number?

If not from the factory as a special gun, Bar-Sto was one of the only companies to make aftermarket barrels for S&W 3rd gen. autos.
