I've been shopping for a 1-4x for a while now to put on top of my AR-15. I've read all the threads I can find, but everything just seems to keep me going in circles. The big issues that I have with products in my price range are battery life and daylight visibility. I've lurked patiently since August hoping for news from Zak Smith regarding Premier, and I've also been reading up on the Vortex PST 1-4x coming out in April.

Right now I'm REALLY looking at the Accupoint TR24. I like the no-batteries option. A ranging reticle would be nice, but I've never really used one before and don't feel that it is a must-have. The choice between red, green, or amber doesn't really matter to me, so now I'm trying to decide between the triangle reticle or the crosshair/dot reticle. For some reason I like the idea of the triangle reticle better, but have only been able to find the crosshair types for hands-on evaluation.

Does anyone have any real-world experience with one or both types? Which type is prefered and why? Should I buy now or wait/look into other options?

Hope this post wasn't too long and rambling. Thanks in advance for the help.

dang, nice rifle billy. nice optics, nice mount, nice cat tail

I can't remember who but I was reading where a fella really liked using the tip of the amber triangle as a precise aiming point and using the whole triangle as a point and shoot reticle for fast shooting.

You might note that the 1.25-4x24mm (1" tube) Accupoint has much MUCH better eye relief than the 1-4x24 (30mm tube) Accupoint. And since it gives up virtually nothing (1.25x is very very close to 1.0 x, and is just as good for all intents and purposes, AFAIAC), you have to ask yourself whether you might like and want the better eye relief (allows you to mount it lower and forward of the charging handle, and still have lots of ER left). It's cheaper too.

you do not understand the purpose behind a true 1x optics.
may wanna study-up and hurry back ;)

Dr Tad, I've looked at the 1.25, but the FOV with the 30mm is much better.

Bily, I did a little research and apparently you have the green triangle. May I ask again why you chose the triangle over the crosshairs?

ive got one on my 762x39 ar. I went with the triangle for speed as its a gun that will be used for thick woods hunting for pigs and deer. I cant imagine a better scope for the purpose on any whitetail or pig gun.

I have the TR24-3G and it is sweet. The dot is 3.6 MOA at 1x so it can be used like an Aimpoint. At 4x it is .9 MOA for very precise shots at distance. I looked at both reticles and I think the triangle is to big for long distance (200+ yrds). The only down side to the German #4 is the dot is not bright unless it is in direct sunlight. This is on my 3 gun rifle, not a defensive weapon, so not a big deal for me. I will try to post pics later.
