Well I've pretty much narrowed it down to the TR24 with the post and triangle reticle for my first optic which will reside atop my AR15. Looking for suggestions as far as red vs green color and the various mounts and rings. I know with regards to color its a personal preference thing and I intend on tracking down some examples to see for myself but having more opinions couldn't hurt. I currently reside in the desert so I think amber is out and red would stand out more while green is brighter but might blend in with grass and green foliage.

Also it seems rather ridiculous that some of the quick release mounts are going for nearly $300 while others can be found for around 10 times less. While I generally tend to buy quality this seems like an area where I'd be able to get away with spending less. I'm looking for something solid and serviceable for general range duty and maybe a few classes here and there. So in other words is a premium mount really that much better or is it a case of diminishing returns? I'm new to shooting with glass so I'm fairly shocked at the prices of some of these mounts.

And just to throw it out there my second option for an optic would probably be an Aimpoint PRO. I'd prefer the flexibility the variable optic offers but truthfully most of my shooting is at 100 yds and in. Anyways yeah let me know which color and mount you prefer.

As far as mounting options are concerned, many use the burris peper mount and are happy with that. If you plan on using a back-up rear sight then you will need a mount that cantilevers the optic forward.

I also know people that just use a set of extra high rings.

Personally I like the Bobro stuff. If I'm not mistaken all of the mounting hardware sold by trijicon is Bobro made.

I like the green chevrons and have used them down here in south Louisiana and don't find that it blends in at all with the surrounding brush.

I would go the Aimpoint Pro route if I were shooting @100 yards and in. I'm just not a fan of the variable 1x stuff.

Hmm thanks for the suggestion and reply. As I try to research this some more I'm quickly realizing there its more to mounting an optic than just securing it into the rail. The pepr looks like a good option and not in the absurd price range. Also what is it about the bobros you like, what makes them cost so much more, and in your opinion is it worth the premium?

Guess I really need to find a local shop with some mounts to try out and see what works for me.

I really like how the mount self adjusts its tightness to the mounting platform. Similar qd mounts must be manually. It's designed to not mark the mounting surface, so no ugly marks on the receiver. He uses 6061 T6 Aluminum. And its made in the us. The repeatable zero is another feature I like as well. I have to take scopes off to fit rifles in the safe. The fact that they are anodized is nice too. I find that helps prevent rusting (my rifles get used in any weather) and it seems to help the over all look of the mount (doesn't scratch easily).

Having the choice to get the mount flat or with 20moa is nice.

I run them on the two semi auto platforms that I own and I do believe they are worth it. I have an acog with the bobro qd mount, and two scopes that are in the 1 piece ring/base.
