Summary
Colorado was once one of our "Gold Star" open carry states. However, Denver filed and won a suit challenging the states excellent preemption law. Consequently, both open carry and unlicensed open car carry in Denver are prohibited. There are reports that other localities are planning to follow suit. Currently, outside of Denver, car carry is unrestricted and localities are almost completely preempted in enforcing firearms restrictions, and must post specific facilities which are off limits to open carry.

Denver county is the only prohibited county.

I just got back from the King Soopers in Colorado Springs and there was a man walking out open carrying. I see about a person a month open carry in town. I have done it here about a dozen times or so. I wouldn't worry about it in the Springs.

awsome to hear this, i cant conceal carry yet im only 19 been i had been open carrying in my town but hadnt thought of anywhere i could besides westcliffe

Back when I was a Trooper this was a question on one of our tests. There is no State Law that says open carry is legal, but there is not one saying it is illegal so it is de facto legal. However as NavyLT pointed out, a city may pass an law restricting open carry in certain areas. Colorado Springs does not, to my knowledge have such a law though I know that CSPD frowns on it and will make contact for "public safety" reasons. You should be fine open carrying in Westcliffe. I was stationed in Walsenburg, open carry is very common in rural areas of Colorado.

I got my CCW in Douglas County in about a month when I lived in Lone Tree. I only OC'd in the mountains, but never in town.
