I'm looking for holster options for a Ruger SRH Alaskan 2.5". I want a strong-side that's low profile, and a shoulder rig. Who has recommendations? I haven't found much out there I like...

You didn't really say whether you intended to conceal this rig or just carry it in bear country etc.

The belly/chest holsters are frequently used for this. Alaska Sportsman makes one I really like. I've never seen an under-the-arm shoulder rig for it, possibly because it's so thick it would cut off your blood supply.

Rugers version of the chest pouch/holster is well supported, well designed, and doesn't tire your back. I have one, I like it.

Pretty hard to beat the Simply Rugged choice. I have one for my Alaskan and it will conceal under a jacket or sweater in the colder weather. The Alaskan is a bulky choice for summer carry and will print under a t-shirt. If you are planning on CC, you might want to think about getting the original grips (Letts) to replace the Hogue's.

Thanks for the input guys. I do like the looks of that Sourdough from Simply Rugged. I'm going to send them an email and ask a couple of questions about that particular holster.

This is not a CCW piece. I have a dozen other pieces that are suitable for concealment... just don't like bulk on my hip regardless. I probably won't carry this much anyway; if I have it on it means I'm in the Beartooth/Teton/Absoraka area of the state where the big fuzzy things live. Part of the reason I want a belt holster is that I can use it on my backpack that's rigged to take a holster, and take it off and put on my belt when we get to the destination.

I also want a chest or shoulder rig, but I'm not fond of the looks of the GrizzlyTuff unit. I want something smaller than that... I'm kind of a minimalist when it comes to holsters. Any other thoughts on those?
