In the process of moving to a new apartment, I accidentally broke a jar of honey and managed to spill it all over a big box of ammo. What is the best way to wash off a bunch of cartridges? They are 9mm hollowpoints.

I went and looked on a bee forum... It appears as if Dawn dishsoap in as hot of water as you can handle is the recommended recipe. Your affected ammo is probably best to be reserved for range use.

Yall are funny:D

If the ammo was mine I would wipe off as much as I could with paper towels and follow up with a rag soaked in rubbing alcohol. Wipe each one down individually.

I agree with making it range only ammo. Your life is probably worth a little more than another box of self defense ammo.

Wash the ammo in a dishpan of hot water and dish detergent, then towel-dry it. If you have a compressed air source, you can use the air to dry it. Even without primer and case mouth sealant, the primers and bullets fit tightly enough in the case that a brief exposure to water will not penetrate them.

Set all of it near a fire ant bed. It will probably be clean before dark.

You don't even have to find the ant bed. If you leave it out the ants will find it!

That said, I'd probably just use a hot, damp rag to wipe off what I could.

How many rounds are we talking about?

Sounds fishy to me. How do you break a jar of honey... All jars of honey I know is plastic. Big box of ammo? it just sounds like a ammo can? how do you break a jar of honey on ammo? the force could set the primers off, if we are talking about a glass jar slamming on ammo. :scrutiny:

I second leaving it to the ants. Its sure to make their day!

Afterwords it should jut take a quick hot water dunk to remove any left over stickiness.

I third the fire ant suggestion. They canalso cleanup baked on disasters pretty well. They are my sworn enemies but every now and then, we declare a truce and I feed them and they7 clean "difficult"things for me. Rick
