So my brother in law bought a hunter model ak. The gun has a slant at the back of the receiver instead of being strait. Where can he look for a thumbhole stock for it??

That sounds like a Vepr of some sort. Does it look like any of these, perchance?

There may be other AK's built on a slant receiver, but the only ones that come to my mind immediately are the Vepr series shown above. They came in several calibers, from .223 to .308, and several styles, both regular AK style and classic wooden thumbhole style.

Find the importer's name/address and the caliber etched into the side of the receiver, and that will probably tell you the specific make/model. As you might imagine, the stocks for slant-receiver rifles are specific to those rifles, and stocks for regular straight-receiver AK's won't generally fit without modification.

If it's a Vepr, you should be able to Google up a source for the stock, especially since a lot of Vepr owners replaced the thumbhole stocks with separate shoulder stocks and pistol grips.

I would expect it is a Norinco Hunter, I believe it is much more like a chinese Saiga as the trigger group is relocated and it can't use pistol grip/thumbhole stock setups in the factory configuration. http://ironwooddesigns.com might be able to make some kind of custom thumbhole setup.

I presume this is it:

Looks like some type of milled receiver, not sure if there are any options for relocating the trigger group to use a traditional pistol grip stock setup. The mag catch is not AK-standard stuff either.

thought i'd share. i've only used this gun a few times but no deer so far. i've always like the real deal, no "hunter" version unless your state doesn't allow you.
