Picked one of these up from a churchmember a couple of weeks ago, right before leaving on my honeymoon.

It's the standard 4" BBL service size. Comes with all the usual XD gear.

NIB for $400. There are many like it, but this one's mine. I've shot plenty of XD's before, but this is the first one I've ever owned (actually it's the first autoloading pistol I have ever owned). Planning on getting out to the range with it come this weekend. I'll chime in again with a range report.

I plan on carrying it fairly regularly. Looking for your recommendations on two fronts:

1) Holster - Probably strong side OWB, or possibly a pancake holster
2) Carry loads. A good reliable hollowpoint with decent performance.

Thanks!

I have a XDM 9MM 4.5" a good place to start,

Reposted from another board.

This is from Dr. Gary Roberts, one of the most prominent and well respected ballisticians in the country.

Note the summation at the end (keys).

The following loads all demonstrate outstanding terminal performance and can be considered acceptable for duty/self-defense use:

Winchester Partition Gold 124 gr JHP (RA91P)
Winchester Ranger-T 127 gr +P+ JHP (RA9TA)

Remington Golden Saber 147 gr JHP (GS9MMC)
Speer Gold Dot 147 gr JHP (53619)

Barnes XPB 185 gr JHP (copper bullet)
Federal HST 230 gr +P JHP (P45HST1)

This pistol will shoot any 9mm regardless of brand or etc. I have yet to make my pistol choke on anything. Basically just use whatever self defense round you think is best.

I would suggest:
Federal HST 147 gr JHP (P9HST2)
Remington Golden Saber 147 gr JHP (GS9MMC)

Thanks for the imput on holsters, that was one of my questions also. I still am using the stock one that came with the gun.

I don't have a 9, my XD is a .40 but it has over 3,000 rounds through it without any failures. I carry it OWB in a Don Hume 721 OT.

Congrats on the new XD and your marriage as well! Being a gun forum I had to put the XD first. :D

Barney Bear pretty much covered the ammo selections. I've got Speer Gold Dot 147gr right now but I'm going to try some Winchester Ranger-T as well. All those from the list are quality ammo choices so it really just comes down to what you prefer. Your XD should be fine with any of them.

Some of the Springfield Armory head honchos were on Gun Talk radio a year or two ago... They specifically said that the Milt Sparks holsters were what they recommended. http://www.miltsparks.com/

I am looking forward to getting a Minotaur MTAC http://www.comp-tac.com/product_info.php?products_id=95.

I mainly use a Cell Pal. Don't laugh. I needed deep concealment and it works very well for what I do. I've been illegally patted down and the security totally missed my tool.

You can sometimes find the Milt Sparks holsters for sale on Brownells.com so you can avoid the lead time.

Good Luck

I like CrossBreed for IWB holsters and am pretty happy with my Fobus for an OWB holster. I use the Remington Golden Saber rounds for SD.

First of all, thanks for the detailed input on ammunition selections. That is some great information and will likely get passed on more than once to other people that I know. I've been into firearms for a long time, but generally speaking I'm strictly a wheelgun man. This little foray into the world of bottom feeders has been /primarily/ for the sake of some instructor certifications I'd like to work on next year (simply because I really enjoy teaching new people to shoot). However, I've always like the ergonomics of the XD and am excited to take it to the range tomorrow. I'll try to post some pictures and a range report when I get back.

Jackal1 - Not going to laugh at the cell pal. My Dad actually used one of those for his XD-9 SC for a long time before switching to a SmartCarry. Thanks for the heads up about the milt sparks holsters. I'll probably give those a try, as well as seeing what Galco has in the way of leather for this particular platform.

Wispa - I appreciate that. I'm sure we'll be very happy together (the wife and the XD).

Mudinyeri - I know a couple of people who have cross breeds and they really like them. That will definitely be something I consider.

Good to hear the reliability reports on the XD. I've had a lot of trigger time with my Dad's XD-9 SC and I've never seen it have any issues, nor has he had any issues with it since he bought it. Still, the XD is kind of the "new kid on the block" as far as polymer pistols go, and there are a lot of people out there who don't think it's reliable unless it's <insert favorite pistol here> brand and is carried by <insert LEO organization, special ops team, etc.>.

good choice, and a great price. I have 2 xd service models, and one of which has over 17,500rds and it is still going strong.

1) holster owb: Raven Conealment. Iwb the same.
2) Ammo, corbon dpx.
