I recently purchased a Winchester Ranger in .30-06. Although it won't win any beauty contests I have completely fallen in love with this gun. I have a good amount of no name soft point 150 grainers and a pound of IMR 4895. I was just wondering if anybody might have a pet load with this combination? Also, unfortunately I have no idea what the rate of twist in my barrel is. Thanks in advance for any help.

47.0gr is what I use for 150gr bullets when shooting my M1 Garand and 1903A3. I don't shoot SP's out of the Garand, but I use them in the '03A3 as a hunting load.

The previously presented loads are what I have used in my Match Garands and in a match bolt rifle. Forty seven or 47.5 grains IMR 4895 is a military ball equivalent load based on my testing. And it shoots good, target group shot with iron sights. Ball loads did not exceed 50,000 psia so some will consider them powder puff.

You will probably get advice to add more powder, something that can be done easily, but this load is easy on the rifle and cases. It is plenty powerful as is and yet allows margin/buffer in changing components, primers, cases, seating depth, etc.

A super hot load, one little change and you will be blowing primers.

Imr-4895 was especially developed by dupont chemicals, specifically for the m1 garand rifle & it's gas operated system. After ww2, reloaders discovered it worked quite well in bolt-guns. Imr-4350 would be the one to choose if you desired another 200 fps or using 180 or 200 grain bullets in the 2500 to 2800 fps range. 45 to 47.5 grains under a 150 grain bullet is ideal.
