I recently adopted my father's model 60 as a range toy. It's 20+ years old (at

least) and I don't think he has ever cleaned the thing. While at the range the

action kept getting hung up because of some kind of crusty something going

on. I cleaned it but now I have noticed something else. There is a good bit of

slack between the butt-stock and the receiver/barrel. I can slide the

receiver/barrel close to 1/16'' away from the butt-stock. Is this

acceptable/normal or do I need to take this thing down and tighten her back

up? It shoots just fine, probably 2'' at 50 yards with a 4x32 scope.

there's a screw under the stock toward the forearm and one behind the triggerguard to tighten the action to the stock. That should do it.

Only snug those screws. over tightening can break rear of the trigger guard. You should probably take it down and give it a good squirt of CLP, 60's can accumulate a lot of crud.
Enjoy it, they're great rifles and you can do a lot to improve them yourself. Here's mine with a mild trigger job, refinished stock, pillar bedded action, and free floated barrel...

Thanks for the answers guys, I knew the location of the screw but wanted to double

check it wasn't supposed to be like that before I went to the trouble. Every time I take

apart a rifle/shotgun the screws get messed up and I didn't want to fool with it. I've yet

to buy a set of smithing tools. Nice one you have there dewalt, I've always been partial

to the 60, rather handsome firearm IMO.

Thanks for the link rocky, I'll definitely be getting one of those Rimfire Technolgies charging handles. The itty-bitty stock one kills my finger, my hands are way too big for it.
