I'm posting this for my brother-in-law who has inherited a "Marlin Model 410 lever action repeater" shotgun. It's serial number is 2XXX.
The very little I found was a Yahoo Questions answer which had a Model 410 with a 4XXX SN. The person answering said that these were bonus gifts for people who bought 4 shares of Marlin stock during the heart of the Depression. The guns retailed for something like $30. Apparantly they were only made for a few years, something like 1928-1932. Also, the SNs were not carefully tracked during that time.
Anyone confirm or verify what I found as accurate? Anyone know a date of manufacture based on the SN?
Thanks,
Q
