Hi everybody, I'm David from GoingQuiet.com - FL's largest Silencerco distributor.
Today, the UPS guy brought in something everyone's been waiting to see the new Stainless Sparrow from Silencerco!
First - as with everything gun related, lets show off the length. A Gemtech Outback II has been placed next to it for comparison.
The SS sparrow is just a tiny bit longer but not appreciably so.
Here's the business end showing off the death star rather nicely. I like the business end of the new sparrow!
Now, to take the thing apart - few things are different from the classic sparrow. Before the end cap was on the end. Now, the endcap is near the threads. I like the death star like design of the endcap too. Very simple, yet elegant!
After removing the endcap - the two stainless steel half pipes stick out a tad. The classic sparrow didn't show much half pipe as the endcap was a lot smaller but the new endcap is larger and goes around the visible portions of half pipes showing.
After the half pipes came out - the new stainless steel versions are not tongue and grooved like on the classic You can see the lip running the length of the core. I didn't get classic sparrow half pipe assembly wrong too often - but this is a nice touch.
Interesting to note that on the classic sparrow you could put the tube back on in any direction - depending on if you liked people to be able to read SILENCERCO 22 SPARROW upright or upside down, I was kinda anal retentive in keeping my tube oriented a certain direction so people could read instead of saying "hey, who made that?" at the range. Now on the new SS tubes - there's only one way that you can put it on, they put what I'm going to call a scalloped edge along the tube and the core so it only goes on one way. You can see the detail near the death star.
And last - the new stainless core. Finished in black oxide with a hint of machine oil for a slight hydrocarbony finish.
Any questions?
