Once used 40 brass

Be sure to carefully compare the prices of previously fired brass with new brass from places like starline. I usually come away with the thought that the difference in price isn't worth it. But, I shoot 10mm, which is hard to find once fired. I haven't really priced 40 S&W brass.

How much are you looking for? I have several 5 gallon buckets full of it that I buy from our club.

Got mine for "free", meaning I picked it up, and not for sale.
I just love working at the range. :D:D

Our club has a rule that anything the person shooting doesn't take belongs to the club. You can take your own brass, or any given to you, but everything else is supposed to belong to the club. Do I pick up left behind brass and put it in the brass container? They think I do, so we'll leave it at that........

I would agree up to a point, but if I have to show up at 6am and work till dark, then do it all over again the next day I pick up all the brass I could ever want. That's part of the arrangement I made when I started working there 3 yrs ago. And I love it. :D:D

New brass from starline (non-volume purchase) is $129.50/1k. You can get once-fired 40 for about $35/1k if you look. Even buying a drum from starline doesn't get close to that price.

Look for a good deal on a large amount of new ammo (with reloadable brass casings) and shoot it all up...! By then you'll be a better shot and you'll have a bunch of once-fired brass to reload...!

Check the Trading Post section on this forum. There are usually several members selling 40 S&W once fired brass at any given time and you can generally pick it up for $30 - $40 per 1000 depending on if it's been polished or processed.

How do you get that brass so clean?? I tumble mine for 8 hours with corn cob and the inside bottom of the cases still have some residue on them.

.40 is all over the Trading post section, and is cheap as it gets. I will be posting some there as soon as I get a chance to see how much extra I have.

I bought some recently from grafs. Below is price and order number. There was just over a 1000 good cases + a few 9MM stuck in a few. I figure between this and the 250 rounds of factory ammo I saved the cases from I'm good for a while :)

Sorry if I'm hijacking this thread - but why would someone spend a premium on new brass when it cost as much (if not more) than fully loaded rounds of Federal/Winchester from Walmart?

This is an honest question - I'm new to reloading (and to this forum) and have been wondering about new brass vs boxed ammo. It SEEMS silly to spend the same amount of money on new brass when I could have fun "making" once fired brass from my Walmart purchase for the same price.

Am I missing something? Is the brass from Walmart sub-par to newly bought brass?

BTW - great site for a new reloader!
