Because its fairly easy to remove if you want to do something different later.

Touch up is easy too.

Aluma Hyde II works good for the "base" coat though. You can still strip the others and not have to redo the base.

Herdog, there's a story behind that rifle and I'd love to hear it.

HeroHOG guys, get it right!

It was a $5 yard sale Model 60 Glenfield with no stock. I made the pistol grip from plate steel and an exhaust pipe and machined the Mag Light mounts out of aluminum scrap. The stock hinge was simply a bolt and 2 nuts and the tab and wing-nut were again fashioned from a bolt and a fender shim and a piece of steel rod. The bolt the wign-nut is on was cut so that the wing-nut was trapped and can't be removed/lost. The sight is an old Aim Point off of a shotgun rigged to work off a standard scope mount.

I've seen a lot of rifles painted w/ a snakeskin camo pattern. Has anyone here tried it? If so what are the pros and cons of using this pattern?

I'm not sure if this really counts for the scope of this thread...

That was done with Testors enamel...it hasn't come off yet...should I expect it to anytime soon?

Here's my remington 770 (I know, I know not a great weapon to some, but sure is a tack driver and not one of the 16 deer I shot with it complained) in my first try at a tiger stripe. Lines are hand painted. Barrel and bolt done in O.D. Green cerakote.
Also here is my Mossberg before and after with Duracoat. I know it ain't Krylon, but its paint just the same. The Mossberg was bought used and in rough shape with a great bore. Also, the purple color is more brown in real life, just can't capture it with camera.

That snakeskin pattern is interesting, how is that done? There must be a stick on pattern to paint with?

Some use nylon stockings, i.e. fishnets for some pattern work. I am not sure about other methods though.

The fishnets are what was recommended to me. An Airsofter I know was showing me his gear. It's all toys, but his paint jobs looked really good. He just bought a pair @Wally world, and other than some strange look as he paid for them, they worked great

Sorry herohog, that's what I get for not copy/pasting, thanks for sharing!

Everything Ive ever painted, was protected from rust as long as the paint was intact. Ive stripped guns that were painted close to 25 years, and not a spec of rust under the paint.

Tested Krylon on Ruger Explorer (pics)

Here is a Ruger Explorer I did with Krylon. Base of khaki, then randomly applied torn masking tape about 60% coverage, then sprayed with olive, removed tape and reapplied randomly torn masking tape, again about 60% coverage, then sprayed with dark brown. When spraying, some areas got a dusting, and some got a full coat.

Krylon'd my 5R, had the barrel OD too but removed it with acetone for now. I'll probably redo it soon though.

One way to acheive the snake skin pattern is to use a laundry bag. I remember someone on here used it on a Black hack CQC or an AR. Came out really nice. The laundry bag can be baught at wally world or if you have access, a military PX, NEX.

Ok, so I have a duracoat setup but still catch myself Krylon bombing stuff to keep with the being broke tradition. It's an old wooden aftermarket stock from a GEW 43 of mine. I also did a friend of mines Draco pistol (on his impatent request) in a snake skin design. I did use a cut up laundry bag for the design.

She didn't want pink?
I've got a pink cricket I thought about doing a little airbrush work on...

Impulse buy. My daughter isn't ready for firearms yet (she just turned four), but I've got the pink rifle for when she is:D I just have to get a bolt action rifle for myself so she can shoot the "same" gun as Daddy.

I recall an article in Field and Stream 20 or 30 years ago. The author had camoed his deer rifle just before a big hunt. Once on site he and his partner were building a blind and he leaned his rifle against a tree. They finished at dusk and he didn't find his rifle until the next day.
