Temporary AR Scope

Well i finally broke down and bought an AR-15, a nice little Stag Arms Stag-15 chambered in 5.56, im very pleased with it.
While at the store purchasing my rifle, a nice old gentleman came in to sell his reloading equipment, his ENTIRE shop, all RCBS, press, 6 die sets including 223, brass, powder, all tools and equipment, every thing you will ever need to reload for $500..
Good news....now I'm Reloading
Bad News...I just blew my entire optics budget.
OK, one of the main reasons i bought the AR was for coyotes, I live in N GA, so most shots will be under 200 yds.
I've read the posts about you get what you pay for, but its gonna be awhile before I can afford a nice scope.
I need something to tide me over..
If you only had $100 to spend what scope would you buy??

Nothing.

Seriously.

After you spend your $100 on a scope, you'll be out $100 that you will never get back. When you want to start saving towards a better optic (which may not be a very long time off), you'll be $100 poorer than if you had not bought the cheap scope in the first place. I learned that lesson time and again with Simmons and other low-end optics.

If you must have a optic right now, I would look for a used Burris Fullfield II or Nikon ProStaff or similar. If you get lucky, you might be able to wrangle one used for a budget close to $100.

Nitrex at Natchezss. 1.5-5X32, 3-9X42, or 3-10X50. Closeouts. In the 2008 Cabela's shooting catalog, the 3-9 was $300.

No joke, I bought a Tasco Target Varmint 4-10x40 scope for about 60.00 with AO and a set of AR QD rings for about 40.00.

This scope is good on a nice day in sunlight. Not great in low light conditions but it's clear, holds zero and I've shot over a thousand rounds through my AR and have not had a problem with it. I like it.

If you replace it in the future just throw it on a .22 or something. That's what I did, but now it's back on my AR untill I get the Leupole Mark AR I"m looking at.

You can buy a scope for $100, but you can buy a quality rear iron site for $100. If your rifle has a gas block front sight, I'd look at some of the iron sights offered by BCM, YHM etc. Not your long distance answer, but you'll have quality that matches the quality of your rifle.

A lone gunner isn't likely to dent the coyote population much so irons for now should be all you need, especially given the distance you're looking at.

The mount can cost $100 or more, the rings can cost the same. No one wants a box of garbage scopes costing more than a good meal with the wife. I too have had a few, I give them away to guys at work who are teaching their youngsters to shoot.

If you need an optic right now for $100 or less, get yourself either a TRUGLO or a Bushnell Trophy TRS-25 red dot sight. Other wise save up another $75 and get a Vortex Diamondback scope.
