So I recently won a Brand New 2010 Mathews Monster XLR8 Bow with a Mathews T5 quiver and Downforce sight at a Friends of the NRA banquet. But dont be jealous just yet, anyone who attends these yearly functions knows that it is easy to spend hundreds of dollars (for the cause) in raffles. I wanted to sell it to help pay for some of my fun for the night. Retail its about $1200 for everything, but I'd be happy with $850.......

So I listed it in the local classifieds for $850 obo or partial/straight firearm trades. For straight trades I put that they must be in my favor, hopeing to get a colt python or something along those lines. Money talks but I love my guns.....

I got a call from a gentleman earlier tonight who has a Colt 1911. He sent me a couple of pictures, and now I have to decide if its worth me to do the trade, and if so if its a deal or mearly something I want for somethings he wants. He said it is a Govt. 1911 with combat grips and that it was made in the 1970's. It come with the standard mag, and another that is +1. He said that its in VG condition. This isnt something a desperately want, but I know that unlike guns, a bows value will only go down. I have a Kimber Pro Cary, and a Springfield Mil Spec 1911 so I wouldnt have a problem selling it in place of the bow if it wasnt anything special, but still worth it to do the trade.

After checking gunbroker and other forums, Ive concluded that theres alot more I need to know about this model as there are a bunch of Colt 1911 variants that can be bought from $700-2000. Obviously I wouldnt do a straight trade for a gun that I can sell for $700, and I am hoping it is one that is worth $900+, and I'd like to know that it isnt one that I'd be struggling to find someone to buy for $500 :uhoh:

Can someone please help me out find out which variant it is and what realistic value it is?

Thankyou in advance for your time and help

Call Colt and they will give you year made That a start . Since I have no use for a bow. If was in nice shape with box and papers. He would go home with a bow and I would have another Colt. . But that's me not you.

1 800 962 COLT They will want serial number and its a 1911 Talk nice might get more than year No price though.

You shouldn't have any trouble selling a Matthews bow on archery talk or hunting PA. Only trade the bow for something you WANT. As far as colt goes, it is hard to get hurt on a 70s manufacture 1911. Do you like a arched MSH and a short trigger on a 1911?

That gun was not made in the 70's. It is a post 1983 gun. I recently picked up one that is LNIB and doesn't appear fired. I got 3 mags and a pile of ammo with it. I have less than 700 bucks in mine.

I see the MX IV on the box, but it also has like 4 other sub-modles. If its one of the lower ones, Is it worth the same price as the standard MKIV/80?

Sell the bow and then buy the Colt or other 1911 you want. That is a $600 to $650 gun depending on your local market. For $700 you can get a NIB Colt 80 seies. For about $900 you can get a Colt Combat Elite NIB.

Brand New 2010 Colt Series 80 blued are around $800.00 here IF YOU CAN FIND THEM.
I saw a Colt Series 70 Repro Brand new 2009 in my local shop for $900.00

I bought the XSE1991 1911 Series 80 Blued with the new style beavertail and ambi thumb saftey!!! for $920.00

People say colt quality is the best it has ever been now due to the CNC machining.

The manual seems to be a generic manual for a few guns. Is it possible that the one in the picture is the delta, combat, or comander? or is it just the bare bones 80?

I guess I wont be taking a straight trade, thank you for your clarification good sir

Ok last night I responded from my phone where I couldn't get the pics to load. Everyone is absolutely correct. You can buy a base series 80 colt for 650 to 750 all week long and twice on sunday.

As soon as pa hunters validates my account i will post the bow there, do they normally take thier time? I activated but cant post yet???
