I've got nothing more to add to the conversation. Just felt like posting another photo:

Dawg,

Seen your gun photoed at other boards. Mighty nice gun.

If I go that route, I'll send them a 6 inch GP and let them make it a 3 inch adjustable sighted gem (I guess as in Gemini!)

But knowing me... I'd just stuff it in the safe with my other safe queens.

Ok, ran the GP through it's paces.

Using PMC 158gr SP .357 magnums (10 year old ammo that is not known for accuracy) it shot dead on at 10 yards with just over 1 1/2 inch size group. At 25 yards I had to use a bit of a 6 oclock hold (but just a bit.) Still shot dead on even at 25 yards!

Using 2 hands, standing, cocked gun, I made consistant 4 inch 6 round groups with it.

One handed DA shooting at 7 yards was no big problem. All shots inside the targets 6 inch black.

Not bad at all. And yes it's a keeper.

Now to take it apart, clean, use super fine steel wool and stainless steel polish I'll take all the holster marks and scratches (just a few of them) and then with Microlo Lub and stones do a action job. No springs will be harmed in this action job!

Then reblue the front sight and get some Secret Service stocks.

Then look for some SERIOUS ammo!

P.S. It does kick some though with magnum loads!

why buy a used one? I picked up a brand new stainless 4.20'' barrel GP100 for $529, and the 3'' barrel is $499. thats only a little more than the used one if it was me and your just looking for a good shooter id go for a new one

Yes $499 PLUS TAX is what I saw at the gun show at Big Town near Dallas.

But $420 flat is alot better than $530 or so. $110 bucks pays for alot of ammo and I can make that gun look new with just some elbow grease and polish.

And the new guns have the new style rubber grips, and while the compact GP grips (old style) are decent, I prefer Secret Service wood.

Oh, and my other GP100, a 4 inch adjustable sighed stainless one, with the old style grips, I got at a nother pawn shop for $300 FLAT! And yes, I still have it.

I have a fixed sight GP100 with a 4" barrel chambered in .38 S&W Special, the sights are right on with 158 LSWC.

Pz,

Try some Buffalo Bore 158gr LSWHPs from your 4 incher. From my 2 3/4 Speed Six they chrono out at 1100 fps!!! I bet you could get almost 1200 fps. Virually .357 Magnum yet it is not a super high pressure .38 load (and you GP will take ANYTHING cause it was designed for magnums, lots of magnums.)

Deaf Smith,

thanks for the tip but I am a reloader and - just for fun - came up with a .38 Special+P+P+++ load that duplicates the original .357 load of the old days.

In general I just shoot mid-level .38 Specials through most my revolvers and almost all centerfire that I use is handloaded, oftentimes with my own cast bullets, too.

Well at least Pz if ever you go to South America and they let you in with a revovler (no miliary ctgs allowed) then that .38 with '+P+P+++' would come in very handy,

That Speed Six above of mine is in .38. It chronos out Buffalo Bore 158s at 1100 fps, and that makes it a mighty handy .38!

There is a gunsmith that rechambers Ruger Six'es to .357 for $85.

If I ever want to add that option to my .38 Six'es I might do it just to have the option of using .357s.

I picked one up at a gunshow about three years ago. It is a repatriated RCMP. Shoots at point of aim at 25 yds. Smooth action. Too heavy and bulky for conceal carry, but rides easily on the belt and fits in the truck just fine.

Ok, polished her up, did my action job, and she is ready to go.

You done good as you don't see many around.

I would love to find a 3 in 38 spl only. But only for around $250 to $350, I got a GP-100 4 in 38 spl only for $250 last month and it is a great gun. Would have to pay more for the 3 inch if I could find one , but hey I'm cheap. :)

they are atomic workhorses that will be going strong way after your gone.
Gone?

Why I'm not planning on going anywhere.

I like Woody Allen’s answer when asked if he was doing all this film stuff to achieve immortality.

He said, "I don't want to achieve immortality through my work... I want to achieve it through not dying."

Sounds good to me!
