This early 60's, well worn Python still has it. The ammo was nothing fancy, just some Berry's 158 hp over 4.7 gr. of Unique. I'd guess my 15 yard from a rest group could be cut in half in the hands of a good pistolero. A couple of days ago, I was considering culling her from the herd, but I guess I'll hang on a bit longer.

That's a good shooter. It's "character" should let you carry it with no remorse over normal wear.

They are original 2nd gen grips. The gun is a 1963...about the change over year from gen 1 to gen 2.

That is really nice. I really want one to shoot a lot like you do. How has it held up all these years?

I think the last year for generation 1 stocks was 1961. I could be wrong on that though. Do you notice the difference in balance with it having the hollow underlug?

Hello friends and neighbors // They just get smoother and smoother, glad you still enjoy shooting the old ones. I do to.

My 61 has a good bit of honest holster wear too but is one of my best/smoothest shooters.
IIRC 61 was the last year for the gen 1 grips.

They are truly a thing of beauty,I have a 6 inch Python that my lively wife bought for me in 1967. I have no idea how many rounds it have fired (many thousands) and its accuracy still amazes me.

The Python truly is in a class by itself. I try to purchase one prime example per year, starting the hunt for this year's snake, and I think I'll be looking for a early 60s 6". Thanks for sharing yours with us!

Rayman,

That gun has held up great all these years. It looks like it was holstered alot. However, I do not believe it was an uniformed officer's sidearm. They are easy to tell. Usually, one grip side will be banged up badly from hitting door frames and getting seatbelt buckles knocked into it.

Mattlove and 788,

Thanks for the offers to adopt it. If I decide to let it go, I'll keep you guys in mind.

George30,

I can't tell any difference in the hollow lug vs. my other 4" shooter with a solid lug. I'd guess in a 4" gun the weight difference is less than half an ounce.

I'll buy it! If your serious about letting it go PM me and we'll make the arrangements. I live in Az. where firearm sales are as simple as buying a pack of cigs.

dont let lem go , ever! I let one go years ago and cant afford to get it back! Would love to get my hands on a Colt Python 6" and a Colt Anaconda 6" wont ever happen , but the hell! Maybe Taurus will make replicas?
