Kimber trouble :(

Hand held, even by the best is going to raise skeptics.

IMO kimber is nowhere near the best, their a sheep in wolf's clothing. Sure they often look cool, but they are average 1911's inside.

The cool thing about kimber is they will customize guns like this or the Tom Gresham Gun Talk 10mm (GT10).

as long as its being dependable so far, its a sight issue at most. That is easy to work around but its too bad you have to do this on a new, Customized pistol.

Option 1:
Bench rest shoot it. Make note of exactly how high it is, exact range, and ammo type.

Use that info to calculate some new sights. Call Dawson precision and have new sights made.

Option 2:
Mangle up your existing sights. File the rear until the pistol shoots lower. Pound out the sight and measure height with digital calipers. Call Dawson and have custom sights made at exactly the height that you zero'd your gun at.

Option 3: Send it to a really good 1911 gunsmith like Severns Custom.


I like option 2 the best. Fiddle with your gun even if it ruins the sights until it shoots well. Then remove, measure and order a new pair.

Option 1 isn't too reliable if your after perfection, and option 3 may still need tuning, not all gunsmiths have time to fine tune your sights to absolute perfection. I'm picky. So I do my own sights usually. I have screwed up a few.

I use a really thin Dawson FO front sight and a Hienie rear and love them. Way faster and more accurate than my stock sights.

Sorry to hear of your troubles. Have you contacted your dealer or Kimber about the troubles? I own a Custom Covert 2 and I know there is nothing "average" about it's accuracy. Maybe try a laser bore sight and see exactly where it lines up. Once you verify how far off it is I would contact Kimber and see what they have to say about it.

Kimber only offers two heights for front sights - 0.150 and 0.180. Measure yours and I'll bet it's the .150. Call and order the 0.180 and your problem should be solved.

By all rights they should replace it themselves, but considering all the time and trouble, it would be simpler to just order the thing.

If this is your first 1911, let an experienced 1911 shooter or two to give it a try. The trigger on a 1911 takes some getting used to when you switch from other guns.

If you are sure it's the gun, don't spend any money on a gunsmith. Send it to Kimber and let them fix it.

Generally Kimbers are accurate. You issue may be the sight thing that has been mentioned. Call Kimber. If you have to send it back, push on them to send you a shipping label at their expense.

You needed customer service before you even got the pistol? I'm confused.

I'm not sure what happened to my post, but a few days ago I posted that my Kimber Tactical Entry II has a 0.180" tall front sight. The sight is the factory Meprolight night sight. The pistol shoots to POA with factory ammunition or my reloads. 6" plates at 25 yards are no problem with a center hold. As KodiakBeer said, measure the height of the front sight.

I agree, put it on a bench or a sandbag. If you call the factory to complain, they are probably going to ask you if you did this anyway.

I am getting a commemorative Para, I honestly don't expect it to be as nice as my Kimber.

I've shot a Kimber pistol and wasn't impressed with it.



I'd most likely never own a Kimber 1911, especially when there are many other great 1911's out there and for cheaper too.

I'd call Dennis at Kimber Custom Shop...Tell him your issues. They will likely repair or replace it with one that shoots straight.

Kimber produces more 1911's than all the other comoanies combined...therefore you hear of numerically more issues..as a percentage of those produced they are average with other manufacturers.

Also, check out the 1911forum and ask there.

And the good new is, you can send the slide only. No FFL required, no FedEx, no worries.

I have owned 25-ish 1911s and eight Kimbers in the last 25 years. Kimber is the only 1911 manufacturer that has yet to deliver a lemon (IME).
