After several years of competing (just having fun actually) with a Stoeger Coach Gun, I'm considering something just a little more period correct and safe to store charged, in a external hammer model. I've only found 1 or 2 companies on-line, so I'd appreciate any input.

There is also the CZ. The company is Czech but I believe the shotgun is Turkish.

What lovely guns they are.

Baikal makes a rugged, if ugly, one. I have a Spartan (Baikal imported by Remington) hammerless, they also offered a hammer gun. The guns won't break or wear out anytime in the near future. I'm sure they'd hold up for you in lots of competition.

Stoeger gets good reviews, but i never owned one. Personal bias, I'd avoid those cheap Chinese ones.

The clone of the 1878 Colt looks nice. There was one in the LGS a while back and I was sure tempted. The nice thing about it was that the hammers were contoured inboard so that the sweep of your thumb would cock both at the same time.

I have a Baikal (Remington Spartan) hammer coach gun. I like that it has interchanghable screw-in chokes. What I don't like is that the hammers are fakes (they're really cocking levers, they don't strike the firing pins, and the real hammers are hidden inside).

The Colt hammer shotgun clones are made in China. I used to scoff at the Chinese shotguns but the quality has improved tremendously over the past year or so. In fact I'm looking for one to replace my Baikal.

I too have the Baikal (Remington Spartan), which I find very satisfactory if one could accept the fake hammers. Curiously, it has the nicest wood of any gun I own, but by far the worst of the worst triggers. If anybody has any information on improving the triggers, I's appreciate your pointing me in that direction.
