Just loaded up my first 38 specials and wanted to double check something with you guys before I loaded up a bunch of them. I've never loaded a bullet without a crimp groove like this, and can't find any pictures to tell me if its seated and crimped properly. Its a 125gr on 5.0gr Unique for my Ruger LCR. Just seated it to 1.40 with the Lee Bullet Seating die and crimped it enough to take the flare off.

Interesting. First .38 Spl lead bullet I have seen with out a crimp groove.

They look good and should should shoot just fine like they are. You could use a taper crimp die to give them a little crimp if you wish.

I second the crimp over the driving band, however, more than likely you dont need anything more than a touch with a taper crimp to remove the bell. I have shot my reloaded 38s in an airweight with a taper crimp and didnt have any issues.

Are you sure those bullets are for a .38 Special and not for a 38 Super or 9mm? I agree it's strange there is no crimp groove on them.

Did you check the bullet diameter? If the diameter is .356" instead of .358" accuracy will probably suffer.

Good looking bullet. It should work quite well at .38 Spl pressures with no more than a light crimp or even just the removal of the bell.

Well I didn't test for group size cause I didn't have a clue what distance was appropriate to do it at. I did run them over my chronograph though. With the LCR's 1.875" barrel that load averaged 815fps. For camparison the 135gr gold dots meant for a snubby clocked at 840. Both are not somethimg I'd want to run a whole box of but not that unpleasant by any means. I was a little worried stepping down from the 357 to a 38 for my ccw. But I just shot that 125gr bullet at a treated piece of 4x4 lumber from about 20ft. Hit it dead center, punched straight through and blew a quarter sized whole out the back! I can live with that kinda performance! Love how light and easy that pistol carries too.
