I just picked up this ugly model 94 a few hours ago. To be honest, I didn't even cycle the action before buying it because I was parked out in front of walmart with lots of cars going by, but the owner assured me it shot fine, and I had bought another gun from the dude last month that shot just fine as well.

After getting home and messing with it, I noticed the trigger has a whole ton of play, both when cocked and when it's not cocked. I use to have a newer M94, but I can't remember if it flopped around the way this one does. It seems to function perfectly fine though, and other than some rust, the gun looks like a decent shooter. BTW, the gun was made in 1971 according to the SN. So, do all M94s have lots of trigger play?

It came with 8 boxes of ammo too. Unfortunately, some is reloads, but it also came with 3 boxes of factory privi partizan 150gr FSP, and a box of winchester super speed silvertips.

Anyone know how old the win. silvertips are, and if there's any collector value to them, or should I just shoot them? They're old enough that it still advertises the fact that they're non-mercuric.

Has anyone shot some of the prvi partizan in this caliber? The tip on them is flatter than a regular spitzer, but they still look a lot more "pointy" than any other .30-30 ammo I've seen (other than hornady leverevolution) and I want to find out if they're safe for a tubular magazine or if it's safer to just load them one at a time.

thanks

All 94's have floppy triggers.
That's just the way they work.

The Win Silver-tip is not all that old or rare in the grand scheme of things 30-30 ammo.
I'd shoot it.

Yes, the PP is safe in a tube mag.

Just for the heck of it, lay a couple on a flat table and notice where the bullet tip rests in relation to the primer of the round in front of it. That's what they do in the magazine too!

I wouldn't shoot the reloads unless you know that the brass is either new or its the brass fired in your new rifle's chamber. I also wouldn't shoot the Privi Partizan unless I was in an emergency situation.

I am not sure why you think this rifle is ugly. It just looks like a M94 in good shape to me.

Care to explain why??

Inquiring minds want to know.

It's commercial sporting ammunition in the original factory box.

I don't understand the comments about Prvi Partisan either. I buy lots of it in a number of calibers. Their 139 gr. 7mm Mauser load is my favorite factory load and I intend to buy some of of the .30-30 soon.

I think the 94 is a good looking rifle!! I don;t know anything bad abotu PRVi ammo. I have shot a whole lot of it in 5.56!!

Tube magazine are flat nose or round nose, no "pointy bullets" (except for poly tips). The Prvi Partizan is good old round nosed. Why not shoot it?

I think the rifle looks terrible. I'll PM you my address so you can dispose of it. :D

I used to have a 94 in .44 Mag. I could kick myself now for ever selling it.

I've never seen an fugly 94 Winchester, years ago when both my boys were in college a school loan did not come through and I was left scrapped for cash for their schooling. I decided their education was more important than keeping all my guns so I sold off all my rifles and handguns but one.

For some reason I just couldn't sell my Winchester 94 Trapper model and it dawned on me that it was my favorite rifle for deer hunting. It has a 16 1/2 barrel and I always thought of my "Trapper" as my Contender pistol with a butt stock. :D
....... Built by U.S. Repeating Arms with "NO" stamped parts.

For selling all my rifles and handguns but one, I now have a Forensic Scientist (profiler) and a Electrical Engineer, it was a good trade and I kept the best rifle. ;)

It was a good swap and now that the boys are long out of school I get to rebuild my lost collection, and the Wincgester 30-30 is still one of my favorite rifles.

Ugly rifle, no way so go look in the mirror.

As stated above the loose trigger is normal, if the bullets are round nose or flat points just shoot them and enjoy a beautiful rifle and a piece of history.

I have read several accounts of extraction problems with Prvi Partizan and Monarch 30-30. I won't use it.

This is how internet rumors get started, in my opinion Prvi Partizan ammunition has higher quality control standards than American made ammunition. Serbian made ammunition must conform to European and American SAAMI and CIP standards and the European CIP standards are higher than American SAAMI standards.

I do not reload poorly made cartridge cases and Prvi has high standards and so do I.

Yep. As above, the trigger slops all around, but after your finger takes up the slop and rattle, most likely the trigger release is pretty good.

My 94 will function just fine with any factory ammo and most handloads. But, as a matter of policy, I don't shoot handloads from unknown sources. By unknown I mean someone whose level of handloading skill and care is unknown to me.

The gun looks good from a distance, but it has a bunch of rust spots that you can't see in the pic, and I think it may have been reblued at one time or another. That's why I said it's ugly, but that doesn't bother me a bit as I have low standards anyway.

Most of the reloads I'll probably pull and use for components.

I like prvi brass/ammo, but I've never seen any .30-30 ammo that wasn't a regular RN before. The prvi bullets just look like a SP spitzer that someone smashed the tip of with a hammer or something, and I just wanted to make sure they're still flat enough for a tube magazine, which enough people have assured me of that I'm not worried about shooting them anymore.
