Has anyone tried Privi Partizan/Monarch 30-30 ammo? I picked up a box of 170 grain flat tip Monarch ammo from Academy sports today and it says on the box it is made by Privi in Serbia. It is brass cased. Is this good ammo? Is the brass good for reloading?

About the only new brass that is available for 30-30 reloading is Hornady and that is just as expensive as this loaded Privi Partizan/Monarch 30-30 ammo. It was 13 bucks for a box of twenty. The brass looks pretty good and annealed at the neck.

I've shot a lot of their .308 and 30-06 and it seems at least average. I'd rate it as good as most, I've had no problems running it through semi-autos's.

Have shot 2 boxes of 170 gr.. Accuarcy is on par with
Rem. and Win.. The only thing I have shot with them
is a coyote, at close range where any thing would have
done the job.

For those who want to do their own research, the Serbian company is Prvi Partizan, not Privi. Pronounce the actual name 'purr-vee' instead of 'priv-ee' and you'll be close phonetically.

Sort of like the Czech brand of Brno which is pronounced 'burr-noe' instead of the common 'brue-noe' in my neck of the woods.

The Serb ammo sells well at a discount to domestic brands and, at those price points, is a good buy in my opinion...reasonably clean, acccurate and powerful for a given load.

I've shot a good amount of Privi .30/30 in my Win 94. No complaints.

I shot the Privi/Monarch 170 grain flat tip 30-30 ammo today at 50 and 100 yards with a scope set on 4 power. It seemed to group 4 shots within an inch at 50 and 4 shots within 2 inches at 100 yards. It seems to group comparable to Federal blue box hi shock 170 grain and also Remington core lokt 170.

150 grain core lokt does not group well in this rifle.

Hornady Leverevolution 160 groups the best at under an inch and a half.

Under 2 inches at 100 yards is pretty good in my opinion for a big game hunting rifle that is used under 200 yards.

The Privi/Monarch brass looks really good and will be kept for reloading. It doesn't seem to have quite the crimp that American 30-30 ammo has.

Does the Privi 170 seem to work well on deer or black bears? I've never known anyone to hunt with this ammo.

its a generic softpoint. actually you cant get any more generic softpoint. Basically is constructed basically the same way the british originally made soft point bullets for the .303 as in
take a standard fmj bullet with enclosed base, and cut a few millimeters of copper jacket from the tip of the bullet and load it up.

Is the performance on deer similar to Remington Core Lokt, federal blue box, or Winchester Power Point? I hate to save 2 bucks on a box of shells and end up with something that doesn't have a decent bullet like remington core lokt.

I can't comment on the factory loaded ammo, but I've reloaded a lot of range pickup Prvi 30-30 brass.

I like it better than Remington, Federal or the newer Winchester stuff.

It seems to last almost as many reloadings as the older "hard" Winchester 30-30 brass.
