I'am trying to found out when the Rifle was made I can not find anything on the Webb on the date code on the barrel. Code on the Barrel is N R S the code does not seem right to me. I don't know if it was sent back to the factory at one time and the barrel changed or what. Rifle is a deluxe model 30-06 serial # 381***
Any info would be appreciated. I am just about ready to give up. If I drop the N and use the R S it comes back as mfg date of Nov of 1969. But N is the first letter R is the second and S is the third :banghead:
Thanks ROOSTER.

It most likely is a 60's rifle with that six digit serial number.
I believe that 1969 is correct.

Thanks guys.
I sent Remington an email they put me on the back burner. I have another 742 with a 22" barrel I picked up it was locked in a gun safe for over 30 years only had 8 rounds put thru it the gun is mint date code on the barrel is P I mfg June of 1976. But the first letter on the Carbine is ( N ) I'de like to know what it means.

Thank you for contacting Remington Country. Your Model 742 was produced in 1968 based on the serial # of 381482. The barrel code indicates the barrel was produced in 1969. This was not uncommon back then to have a receiver produced and a barrel produced in consecutive years so it is most likely the original barrel on the firearm. That is going by the RS for the actual date stamp.

Please note we do not give estimates of value on old guns. It would be unfair to you for us to give misleading values, as the condition, scarcity and serviceability dictate values among collectors, and we do not keep abreast of the price trends of today's old gun market.
Case Closed.
