I have a Tapco T6 stocked 10/22 with Tech Sights. When I am shooting on sandbags on the bench at 25 yards, my groups are stringing horizontally- ten shots in about 1 1/2" to over 2" at times, while at other times it groups fairly tight. Then I stood up and pinned the gun against a vertical post near the receiver, only to group much tighter with faster shots and less effort. I put a bipod on and applied forward pressure, then shot a ten shot group that could easily be covered with a quarter. I have had varying results like this since I bought the rifle a year ago. I concluded that the wimpy plastic stock and the wimpy stock barrel are most likely being torqued in some positions, even though when I shoot on bags I apply no downward pressure on the barrel area, other than the weight of the rifle itself.
If I ream out the barrel channel on the Tapco stock so the barrel doesn't touch when torque is applied, should that help increase accuracy? I know people have done this, but I have never heard if it actually helped accuracy. Can it be that simple, or do I have to do a bunch of other crap if I ream it out? I am working on limited resources, so I don't want to modify my stock if it will make things worse to the point where I have to purchase a new stock.
Thank you for your time.
