So I've decided to start carrying. No trauma or incident spurred this decision, I'm just ready. My handgun of choice is the Springfield Armory Mil-Spec .45 Auto and (despite my info in the sidebar) I am a newly minted permanent resident of Kansas. I have a few questions:

-General procedure for getting a CCW license in Kansas and useful links.
-I live close to the Mo. state line and cross it often, can I carry in Missouri with a Kansas license?
-Good holster for my .45?

Thanks.

Kansas and Missouri are reciprocal...I slip over to your side all the time...with a gun even.

I can see Kansas from my house, so I must be an expert.

Milt Sparks is a great source for holsters. The Versa Max II (VM II) and Summer Special/Summer Special II are the industry standards for IWB holsters.

You can find the Summer Special II at Brownell's

Hahahaha! Yeah, I haven't gone over to burn anyone's house down yet, but I have to say I much prefer my Tigers over any low-down Jayhawks. Parma Woods range is 3 minutes from here so hard for me to drive somewhere else...you can see Kansas from there, too.

Now, eh hem, so my post is relevant, I would check your county's or sheriff's website. They will likely outline the ccw application process for you.

Go to the Kansas attorney generals office website. Click on concealed carry link and all your questions can be addressed. Find a good class heck Cabelas offers them. Usually around 75 for the class.

Once your class has been taken fill out the ccw application on-line at the AG website. Get a passport photo at walgreens. Take your application and 2 checks to your counties Sheriffs office. One check is made out to the Sheriffs office I think for $32.50 and the other to the AG office for $122.50 if I remember right. Wait approx 45-60 days for your application to process. Then go to the DMV and renew your license.

As for a holster I use a Bianchi type 100 to carry my Kimber stainless II works very well.

Get a good belt that is made for supporting a holster and pistol. Otherwise, you will keep pulling your pants up.

Check the internet for what belt.

That is alot of gun to ccw but to each his own.

1: Take class and complete it. This is beyond easy. So easy, that some of the people I saw (Mizzou fans mostly) even passed. Pay your appropriate amounts to the Attorney General and the Sheriff's Department.
2: I also live right by stateline and often carry into MO. The license for KS is good in MO as well.
3: I have a Galco pancake holster for my Browning Hi-Power which will fit a 1911 which has been a great holster. There are so many options out there just pick one and try it out. The only holsters that I have had experience with have been Galco's and some Don Hume's I've gotten from the gun show.
