Ok, I have seen a lot of picks with the same snubbies. What I want to see is what some of you have bought for YOUR snubbie to wear. I am looking at buying some new custom wood grips for my S&W 642. I would like to see what's out there so let's have a little fashion show for our snubbies and their custom grips and such. Even though mine is very basic, I will start.

Smith & Wesson 642 with Crimson Trace Lase Grips. Smooth action trigger job with Wilson Combat Spring Kit and a disabled lock mechanism. Simple, yet sexy.

Here's my Snubby. A S&W model 38 made sometime between '57 and '62. Original diamond grips that are numbered to the gun, with a BK grip adapter.

Sorry for the dust. I just took it out of the pocket holster.

XD 45acp,.....

......how do those magna grips work for you? I have a couple of snubs and would like a more comfortable grip, as in getting my pinky on the grip. And one of them happens to be a 637. I keep reading about how the trigger guard causes all this pain slamming into the fingers. Since I'm a construction worker with a semi-decent grip but medium sized hands, I'm wondering how these would work. The way it looks, I should be able to choke up and get a full grip. What's your take on that style of grips for the Airweight 637? Everything I bought came with a boot grip. Never got to try magnas.

Here are my 3rd Gen Detective Specials, with wood stocks. The blue steel came with Pachmayr's.

Kevin,
I know you asked XD, but you might see I have magnas on my model 38. I did get some trigger guard "slap" without the adapter. I can still get my pinky on the grip with the adapter in place, which is something I can't do with boot grips. It works well for me.

You may be able to find a grip adapter without the finger groove. That is probably your best bet.

Kevin, I never tried the Magnas, so I dont have an opinion. The grips on my 637 came off of my brother's factory Mod 36. He liked my factory rubber grips so we traded. My hands are small ( cause I am a 5'5" Circus Midget ) hahahaha... so I got along better with Old School grips.

Husker and XD

Thanks for your responses. I thought about going with the factory style slab sides and a T-Grip but was afraid I'd be in the same boat as the boot grips. If I just catch the bottom of the grip with my pinky I'm good. Boot grips on my steel Taurus work OK since the steel handles the recoil well. The Airweight is quite a bit snappier. Not bad with standard .38s, but those +Ps like to flip up some. I had a Smith with a T-Grip on it once. Liked it, but it was a 686, so not a good comparison for this situation. Guess I'll have to try it out. Thanks again guys!
