I have a new local range that said he would sell me his brass at $1.50 per lb not cleaned. It didn't sound like that good of a deal til he said bring your own bucket and just go thru my buckets and discard the non reloadable stuff. So that would mean I could make sure I have all brass. What you think?

40 Cal brass=100 per Lb

In 40 cal pistol brass 100 pcs = 1Lb so that =0.015 Ea.
Weight brass you have to see how many = 1 Lb and do the math

Being that you get to hand pick the stuff you want, $1.50 per lb. sounds pretty good. Fortunately I have a good free source for .40 cal. brass I get from the BP & PD practice range. Usually it's FC, but now and then I get lucky and get some Win..

Brass

I live within a mile of the local PD's shooting range & i get lots of 40 S&W brass & 9mm too but i need 44 magnum & 500 S&W Magnum Brass & there is a group of fellas who do LOTS of 9 mm shooting at the old OLIN plant & we get thier brass they leave also

I get about $1.50 for scrap brass at the recycler, so that's not too bad of a deal. I pick up brass at a local range, sort out what I need (or for trade bait) and sell the rest. The deal I have with the owner is that he gets half the value of what I pick up. Works out pretty well so far.

The owner of the range said he didn't care if I sweep up the floor when I leave, but would like if I purchased what's in the bucket. Pretty much fair game on the floor. I picked up an extra 272 45acp cases, and 123 40s&w with a hand full of 9mm today. My biggest need at this time is 38spl for my wife. I only have about 600 or so cases for her. I just don't find much 38spl these days. I have been thinking about just buying 1000 once fired cases.

My recyclers scrap value for cartridge brass is $1.60 per pound. If you checked the scrap yard near you there might even be a better deal. The guy is basically selling for scrap value and the brass that is reloadable is always worth more than scrap price so if you get a bucket full every so often it may be a great deal. FWIW about a week ago I took 6 five gallon buckets full of spent .22 brass to the recyclers and got $330.15. Not bad for something that everyone else usually just throws away anyways.

Revolver brass is usually harder to find. Don't know why really but even shooters that don't reload will keep it because its easy to keep track of I guess. The autos spray it all over and it is the lazy mans way to leave it for us. Most of mine is given to me by friends who keep it and bring it to me. If you can get it for 1.50 or so I would get it.

In reference to the .38 Special brass, unless you're going to shoot more than 600 rounds in one range session you will be alright for a while. I have been loading the same 1200 pieces of Remington .38 Special brass for over 7 years now without having to throw even one piece in the scrap bucket. And unlike semi-auto brass there little chance of losing your .38 Special brass.

That's a great score finding 272 pieces of .45 Auto brass. There is always plenty of 9mm and 40 S&W brass on the ground but 45 Auto brass isn't that easy to find by me...
