Okay, I actually didn't "shoot it off", but I was shooting an extended session of fire with the gun and noticed the sight blade drifting to one side. I let it go for a bit, as I was using a scope and not the sights, but when I finished, I took a closer look at it, and noticed the blade piece is only held in laterally by being slid in between the two angles blades fixed to the barrel (one in front of the other), and slid it right out. Once in that place, what is (was) supposed to keep it from sliding out? I've had this firearm since 1986, and had never noticed this two-part front sight construction before. Admittedly, the scope I use has been on the gun for well over two decades, so I haven't paid much attention to the sight. I have only recently been shooting this a lot since adding a polymer AR-type stock conversion to it, along with Ruger's new 25-round magazine. It's definitely a fun gun to shoot..!

Just friction and a tight fit in the dovetail should have held it in.

It goes in one way (left to right or right to left- can't remember). Just apply a bit of blue or purple loctite and slide it back into place the opposite of the way it came out.

A dovetailed sight like you describe is probably the most common way of attaching a sight to a barrel. If it's too loose you can also take a center punch and peen up just a little metal at the bottom of the dovetail, then drift the sight back in. I've had to do that a few times with loose sight dovetails.
