Holster for 3" J-Frame

Some years ago before I obtained my CCW, I dropped into a local gun store to look at what was on the shelves. I ended up buying a stainless 3" J Magnum with a full lug and adjustable rear sight. Grips are like the ones on the 5" model shown in a prior post.

I soon found that obtaining a proper holster involved more than looking at the rack at Cabelas. For that reason, and for the reason that my CCW instructor characterized an exposed hammer as a "hook" designed to snag on garments, the revolver was assigned to bedroom and RV duty. I bought a Model 642 for carry, and later supplemented it with a couple of semiautos.

By that time I had learned to order good holsters that fit the gun and that can be reholstered one handed--and good belts.

Today, I decided to acquire the facility to carry the Model 60 should the need arise. The Milt Sparks VM-2 is my favorite semi-auto holster, and I have a Com-Tac for an M&P 9c, but I decided to look around a bit.

I came upon an outfit called Bell Charter Oak in upstate NY. They make a model for the Model 60 3"; "Lefty", to whom I spoke, has one. I ordered one with a reinforced mouth.

Will report back in six to eight weeks.

My holster is a bell charter oak m&pIII ordered for a Taurus 445

I didn't like the way the larger framed Taurus fit in it but that 60 and the 905 I now carry fit in this holster like a hand in a glove. Ironically much better than the gun this holster was ordered for.

You guys are absolutely killing me here. I love J frame and Sp101 revolvers with 3" bbls. I need one again.

How much better could you shoot with a 1/3 greater sight radius? Not to mention less muzzle blast and more velocity.

Holster Arrived

The Chicago Rocker 3 IWB holster I ordered from Bell Charter Oak arrived yesterday. Very nice. I'm trying it out now.

Yep, a 3" J-frame can do a bit of everything. Works well in the nightstand, at the range, in the woods, or concealed on your belt.

The sight picture of a 3" barrel is actually a 50% longer than a 2" barrel, and 60% longer than a 1 7/8" barrel.

I don't think you're accounting for the actual sight radius and are just quoting the barrel length difference.

This is the M36-1 I used when I carreid the 38 Special cartridge.

That photo shows the factory grips on it, I replaced them with a pair of grips I whittled from a local apple tree that I pruned.

Wow, looking at all those great 3" M36 revolvers is really making me want one. I have a snub nose M36 but it's just not the same.
It's all your fault guys! :p

I do like my snub M36 though...
