Now I can pretend I'm Cullen Bohannon

Thank you sir.
I really wanted a proper .36 cal Confederate revolver. Being from Texas I would like a Dance but since I already got a 3rd model Dragoon I figured this was good enough:D

I am embarassed to confess my ignorance, but at least I am among friends...

Who is Cullen Bohannon?

How does one distinguish between a G&G and a Colt 1851 Navy...besides round barrel versus octagonal barrel?

Thanks for the education!

edit; OK, I googled Cullen Bohannon...I did not get into "Hell On Wheels".

Salient features of Griswold and Gunnison could also be googled I guess, but I'm lazy at this time of night.

G&G - Copy of the 1851 Navy, made by the South, brass framed, 36 caliber, dragoon style (round) barrel

1851 Navy - made by Yankees in the north, .36 caliber, iron frame, octagonal barrel.

BTW, While Bohannon's pistol was called a Griswold by more than one character in the show; the revolver being used is, in fact, a brass framed .44 caliber 1860 Army clone; and is not by any stretch of the imagination a Griswold.

The script writers for some unexplained reason attempted to impart some magical '.44 magnum super gun' aura around Bohannon's revolver by calling it a Griswold. Ooooooooooooooo.

Oh, yeah, Toolslinger. Nice piece. I've always liked the looks of the round barrel on the G&G and the L&R

I keep buying brasser '51 Navy 44s but would rather have the round Dragoon barreled 44. If you ever shoot that gun loose I'd buy the barrel from you. No hurry.

Thanks for the responses all y'all. I had to cook dinner for my honey last night so I am just getting back online.
I specifically wanted this gun because of Hell on Wheels. I love the story and characters but the silly weapons make me want to kick either the armorer or the show runner in the nether regions.
If you go watch the short "making of" video on the guns you'll want to bang your head on a wall.
Most of the folk on this site could give them more accurate info and they coulda bought the correct weapons just as cheap even in Canada:banghead:
Hellgate this gun will never get more than 18 grains holy black so I hope she don't shoot loose. In any case it's a .36. If she ever does get the frame ruined the barrel will go on a steelie navy and I'll have a Leech & Rigdon:rolleyes::p

J-Bar. By now you may have figured out that Mr. Bohannon (as he is most often called) is the star character in a TV series. Loosely based on building the railroad the show is called, Hell on Wheels."

Thanks y'all. I would have put up with a .44 cal version of this revolver since everything I had was already that caliber. The only reason I wanted the weapon in the first place was that it was a realistic Confederate revolver. The only reason I would have one in a non correct caliber if it was cheap:confused::eek:
Frankly I got no use at all for a brass Remmie or '60 Army. I already got proper steel ones.
If I could find a blank cylinder, .36 cal , brass framed , 1851 I could call it a Schnider & Glassic.
I am not a collector. I am a shooter but I got my pride:D
I ain't fixxin to buy a brass, .44 cal 1851 BUT if I could find a G&G or a L&R with a short barrel (no matter the caliber ) for a good price I would be all over it:eek:

Toolslinger,
The short barreled brass '51 Navies go in sale all the time at Cabelas. I've never seen a short barreled Dragoon style brass or steel Navy anywhere. I have an "engraved" polished steel Navy version called the US Marshall. Nice little gun that looks like it is made of stqinless steel. I use it for finishing deer during hunting season.

F.McGee's collection makes me commit the sin of envy.
Hey fingers, need a spare son? I am up for adoption. I work hard and I don't eat much ( both lies);)

Actually, they are both frankenguns. The barrels & cylinders should be swapped. I picked up the short barreled brass framed revolver & swapped with a '51 Navy - both are Piettas.

Gregorelli & Uberti did make some short barreled L&Rs though. Here's one from around 1960 (IIRC) that BPrevolver picked up a couple years ago.
