OK folks I'm checking at my dealer today & he has in his stock a couple of brand new Taurus 27/7 OSS in .9mm & .45 calibers. Both in the case with all extras included.

Now I'll not even ask which caliber & start that kind of war. Just general buying advice here. The 9 is $379 & the 45 $409. I've done some research on the net & this gun seems to have gotten fairly positive feedback in reviews & from customers alike. I also realize they were discontinued some time ago & Taurus has a reputation that has been quite bad until recently.

Bottom line... Good buys or avoid & run like hell?

P.S. - Oh & I doubt it makes much of a difference but both pistols are in the Tactical Desert Tan frames. I personally think they look pretty good but opinions vary.

I got my .45 ACP 24/7 OSS DS in Rapid City when I was on annual tour a couple months ago. I love it. It's been completely reliable and very accurate. Mine was a slightly used model with no case or extras but I only paid $339 for it so that wasn't a bad deal I guess. Taurus came out with this model when there was a possibility of it being selected for the .45 ACP Special Operations pistol but when that fell through and funding ceased, Taurus for some strange reason also discontinued this model as well. Real shame too since this is one model that Taurus really did right! They have put out a few lemons in their time and the horror stories about their customer service never helped their repuation either. I think this model was going to go a long way to make ammends for these otehr problems so why they quit making it is beyond me.
Bottom line is get back there and buy one...or both! the black frames are more common so finding both a 9mm and .45 ACP version with the FDE frames is bonus points right there!!!

You may have convinced me with this testimony.

I was looking all around the net & found these particular pistols to be quite well done & receiving high praise almost everywhere. They both felt good in my hand & from everything I read they shoot well too. I guess if anything I was hesitant because of Taurus's messy reputation but from what I'm reading it has come a long way.

Beings that my only pistol currently is a Beretta PX4 9mm, I have little basis for comparison. Oh there is also an old Hi Point 45 that I got used from someone (bad rap but it's always fired when I pulled the trigger). My dealer was quite positive on these guns & said he's never had a compliant or return on any he sold.

I guess the trick is to go back tomorrow & try it out in a few holsters & see how it feels on my hip. For those prices I think I might be getting a steal.

I have 3 OSS guns; 2 in 9mm and 1 in .45. They are great guns, IMO and were only discontinued when Taurus rolled out the Gen 2 of their 24/7 line. These guns are going for $425-475 online, so I'd say the prices are pretty good. I have over 24 Taurus guns, and if they weren't good I wouldn't buy or keep them. Good luck with your decision. BTW, I also have several PX4's and love them as well, if that means anything.

I have several Taurus pistols, all have been absolutely excellent shooters and they are one of the best bargains going!

Well I went a & bought the 9mm 24/7 OSS. I'll have to post some pics of it later after I've had time to do a thorough review.

A few initial observations however. First the build quality, compared to others I looked at, was quite good. It has a nice balanced feel when fully loaded & ready to fire & the aim down the barrel is very good. Several safety features to keep the mind at ease & a lifetime transferable warranty are good as well.

I'll give a full range report & review later after I've had time to get know the gun better. Stay tuned.:D

I have an OSS 45 and like it very much. The trigger does take some getting used to but it is also smoothng out as i get more rounds through it. I currently have approx. 200 rounds through and it seems to be very accurate. I wish I had found a desert tan when I bought mine but I will possibly pick up one on the second hand market later. Might also get a 9MM.

I bought two in .40 S&W, one for me and one for my son. They have been very reliable. Mine is a secondary pistol to my Glock 22 and my son's is his only pistol. I would not give him something that he might have to use if it wasn't reliable.
