Winchester model 72

I have had a model 72 bolt action since I was 14 yrs old and still shoot it today(35 yrs later), It is one of the best made bolt action .22's Winchester ever made. I have worked on hundreds of old .....22's but the model 72 is well made and I have only seen a few of the 72A models for repair. My guess is they were too expensive to make.

I have a 72A made in the 50s.

It has the chromed (or is it nickeled) bolt handle, trigger, and trigger guard and a grooved receiver for tip-off scope rings. I mounted an old steel tube Weaver K3 on it in Weaver rings.

My 72's original Winchester stock finish was deteriorating to the point of simply scraping off with my thumbnail. I hated to damage the collector value by refinishing but the situation was simply too bad. So, I refinished the stock with TruOil and now have a beautiful and durable stock finish. It has over half a dozen coats of the oil finish on it.

The rifle is quite accurate and it has never failed to feed. It will shoot half inch to three quarter inch five shot groups at 50 yards with Aguila Standard Velocity.
