So I'm looking to finally get an AR while the getting is good.

Been looking at PSA.

1. Where do you hook your single point sling?

2. I'm looking at a flat top with a pinned f-marked front sight post .. will that interfere with optics?

Thanks

There is a plate you can get that installs between the castle nut for the buffer tube or a device that clamps on to the buffer tube that provide a single point sling attachment (purchased separately).

The front sight will not interfere with the optics if the scope is mounted a bit higher than the front sight. This is completely a non issue since for proper cheek weld the scope needs to be mounted high anyway. With a scope the front sight blurs. With a red dot or holosight the front and rear sights can be functionally viewed through the lower portion of the optic (a BUIS co-witness thingie). In short... it's all good... enjoy =o)

Thanks, but does it have a name, or can ya link me to one?

There are various options for the sling mounting point. Here are two I like:

Here is the Noveske end plate that takes a QD sling swivel.

Look at PSA's industry page on AR15.com. PSA has some terrible shipping times and customer service is spotty. I like PSA for parts, but i do not order major parts from them anymore. If you don't mind waiting 45 days for an upper or rifle to ship, then PSA is ok.

The FSB will be seen thru a 1x red dot up to 3x scope, but it never bother me. Some like an absolute cowitness. Over 4x you will focus past the FSB.

I like slings that are 1 or 2 point, like the magpul MS2 or MS3. The Magpul sling attachment points are good to go.

Single-points are fine, but I'm a big fan of Vickers style 2-point slings, which allow you to do a lot of the things that single-points do without the rifle flopping around so much when it's hanging from the sling (the one exception being quick shoulder transitions while staying slung). This is an inexpensive variant from Blue Force:

IMO the 2-point controls the rifle a lot better when it is hanging from the sling than the 3-point does (3-points are notorious for beating you up if drop the rifle or move with it).

If you don't mind waiting 45 days for an upper or rifle to ship, then PSA is ok.

I recently have made multiple purchases from them. All came in the stated time periods. They tell you uppers and guns ship in 15 days. That is slower than some other places (if those places have stock) but my experience is they ship as stated, within 15 days. For the bargains that can be had it is a short wait. Based on my experiences I would order from them again without hesitation.

As to CS all I have ever needed to use was I had a question, the responded politely and promptly, with in half a day.

(the one exception being quick shoulder transitions while staying slung).

This to me is why I want a single point. I'm not saying others are wrong, however, the ability to rapidly do transitions is something I want. I actually use an MS3. That way if the situation is such that its better to sling it up in a two point mode I can. Yet, for the vast majority of the time when I prefer a single point I can use it like that. Certainly there are many other viable setups. That is just my current preference based on how I'm using my guns.

I am going to order a complete rifle (m4 premium carbine) , unless someone knows where I can get a all mil spec flat top with a good chrome lined barrel for around $700.

Have and love the Magpul ASAP.

I live about 10 min from PSA, and just a quick note regarding their ship times - might have been due to them just opening up a new huge store/range. I live so close, I've never had to have anything shipped from them, but this might be the reason for spotty CS over the last ~ 6 months.

I recently ordered a couple of MOE LPKs, had them in my hands 8 business days later. Not exactly Amazon speed, but for $50 each for those (very nice) parts kits, I'm not complainin' about a couple extra days.

The magpul ASAP is the second of the two pictured sling plates in post #6. Of course if you simply googled Magpul ASAP you could find out very quickly all about it.

Check out the two piece sling mount with QD swivel from Daniel Defense, and you won't need a buffer tube wrench. It runs around $45.00 though. I've got one and it is really a good mount that can be used for right hand or left hand carry.

I ordered my last LPK from them. It took 8-10 days. Not bad. In the past i ordered a lower receiver. It took a few weeks. There are way to many compaints for me to order a rifle or upper from them. Other than shipping, i think PSA is fine. Even the shipping issues seem to be the exception not the rule. My point was let you know about the issues.

PSA has very good stuff. Just way the risks of shipping. I didn't mean to sound so negative. Just letting you know.

This in case people are wondering what it is and how it works.

I like my PSA carbine. It was purchased as a rifle kit along with a stripped lower and I assembled at home.

The PSA is reliable, accurate and a good rifle for the money

After putting over 2500 rounds through it, I'm very happy with it's performance.

On another AR, I didn't like the FSB when using a high magnification variable scope. On the carbine, the FSB is minor intrusion using the Aimpoint Micro. Each shooter will have to decide for their self if it's an issue

You can get a reciever end plate with a sling loop built in, or a number of stocks that have adaptos for sling swivels, like Magpuls excellant CTR stocks.

And if you get an optic with 1/3 co-witness, the sights shouldnt interfere at all. but are still right there should you ever need them. Personally I like absolute co-witness with the standerd front sight. All about personal preference.
