Got my Eotech today

Check out this baby.

I still need to take it out and sight it in. Should I sight it for like 25 or 50 yards or the same as my irons at 100? Right now I have it close to 100 yards. What I did was flip up my irons and got the dot to cowitness.

Anyone have a preference for their red dot zero? I=The more I think about it, the more I think it would make sense to have the Eotech zeroed at a different distance than the irons.

I co-witness with collapsible BUIS so they aren't in my field of view. I use both the EOTech (552) and an Aimpoint M2.

I prefer the EOTech, you get less of that claustrophobic "tunnel vision" effect with the EOTech. With a fixed front, it isn't noticeable since you aren't focusing on the front post, but the target with both eyes. The front sight will be a slightly blurry dark spot near the bottom.

These are the EOTech reticle dimensions I squeezed out of tech support a while back.

I use the "Improved Battle Sight Zero".

I have found that the best way to be happy with an Eotech is to not try an ACOG. My Eotech ended up atop my heavily modded Ruger 10/22. The Carbine (Stag 2TL) wears the ACOG and the varmit rifle (Stag M6L) has a SuperSniper ordered for it. The Nikon ProStaff that originally adorned the 10/22 is now doing box duty in the closet.

On my 20" AR I have an ACOG. On my carbine (lightweight, short range blaster, SHTF) I have a tritium front sight post. Works great, no real possibility of failure like on optics. I don't plan on making any shots past 100, and at 100 - it's a piece of cake to make rapid fire hits over and over on a torso sized target.

Did the reddot thing. I'd rather trust my life to the good old irons. They work for the real-world threats I might encounter. No nonsense, no worries.
