Advice Regarding Purchasing a Taurus .45 ACP

A friend of mine has been offered a full size Taurus .45 ACP for $300 and is tempted to buy it. It would be a face to face private sale from a contact made while at the range. He looked at the gun and all he can tell me is that it looks like it's brand new. He has no idea how old it is, except that the guy selling it said he had it a very short time and bought it from the original owner. He had the impression that the original owner may have only had it a few years. The reason he gave for selling it is that it costs too much to shoot and he wants to get a 9mm instead. The seller also said that it's functioned fine for him and is as accurate as he can hold. It comes in the plastic factory box, but I don't know if it has any papers, and I don't know how many magazines are included.

My inquiries for the brain trust that is THR are:
*What kind of price is $300 for such a gun?
*If anyone has had any experience with a Taurus .45 ACP, good or bad, please include the details and I'll pass the info on to him.

Sorry, I don't have any information regarding the model. All I could get from my friend was that it was a full size all metal 1911 clone. I knew it wasn't much upon which to ask for information, but it's all I had. He only looked at it quickly and held it, giving the person his phone number in case he decided to sell. He just got called today offering it for sale.

I was just looking for opinions on whether $300 was a good price, and experiences with full size Taurus .45 ACPs so I could give him some input based on actual knowledge. It would be a start for his evaluation as to whether he should proceed any further and call the seller back to perform a more thorough examination.

Thanks for the link Canuck-IL. I'll let him know about it and recommend that he call him tomorrow and to get more information, including the model and serial number (if possible).
