Mosin L.E.R. scope suggestions

Hello all! I recently aquired my first 91/30 and am looking to throw some decent glass on it. My budget is going to be around $150 and i wont probably ever shoot past 400 yards. I dont do any hunting, mostly target shooting and will be using the brass tacker mount kit most likely.

I did read somewhere that under the original rear sight is a dovetail... would this be able to be used to attach a good set of rings for a mount closer to the barrel, or is it not practical. I am not worried about solder or anyhing. I have been metal working for over 7 years lol.

Check out BKL Technologies. They make scope rings/bases that will fit onto the 11mm dovetail under your rear sight. The website says they are only for .22s, but trust me they will handle the recoil of that 54r (made in good ole USA). They even have a feature that allows you to adjust for slightly larger or smaller dovetails! (Your dovetail won't measure out to exactly 11mm). I bought the BKL-253 for $35 and it has held up great. No I don't work for them.
I ended up going for a Nikon EER pistol scope. At $189 its a bit more than your budget allows, however mine has an adjustable focus on it which gives you a bit of adjustment with eye relief, whereas most pistol scopes have a fixed eye relief. I love the scope.

on some rifles there is a dovetail, your 91/30 is one of them.
There are quite a few scope mount makers for the MN
Some require drill/tap the receiver and a bent bolt handle mod
some replace rear sight
saw one that was a strap that wrapped around
Brass Stacker is the only one that I know of that pins to the rear sight and doesnt require removal.

I bought my 91/30 with the ATI bolt mod and the ATI rings... an in-expensive WalMart makes this thing a 100 yard 1 MOA ringer every time so long as I do my part.

Thanks franco! I will be using the dovetail under the rear sight with one of the mounts suggested above and will most likely start with a super cheap 2x scope to get it by till i can afford a nice one. Your mosin is very sweet though and i may have to do a bent handle all out one in the future!

If you are going to remove the rear site and use the dovetail, pick up some of these:

Weaver T-22 Dovetail to Weaver Style Base

This is what I use on my 91/30 and they work great. A little locktite on the threads and they have not moved.

I will be going with the bkl mount suggested as it has rings built in and goes right to the 11mm mount to keep the scope low to the barrel.
