First let me start off with this. For a long time now I've been into DIY gun building. I've turned out a few projects that were inspiring, tear inducing (cut my hand, cauterized the wound, it was a long day and I was working to distract myself), swear word inventing, and humbling. I thought about listing those projects and doing pictures but that is not the point.
A lot of folks on the THR share their wisdom and their skill. Some show off amazing feats like restoring a 1911 left in the ground for close to a century (awesome). Some show off their amazing collection.
Where am I going with this? Well I'm a Glenn Beck fan and he had on Cody Wilson one day. I was already into 3D printers and the idea of building one of my own before I learned an AR15 receiver could be done on one far more advanced than the one I was looking to kit build. Well Cody Wilson was on the Blaze with Glenn Beck and he held up a functional AR15 30 round magazine and had a few interesting points to share. His act of making the magazine and sharing the CAD spec drawing for free was a political act he said. He made it so that the magazine could never truely be taken away.
I believe him, and he also said it was downloaded over 50,000 times. I was one of those 50,000+. I stored the file on multiple backups and one of the backups, a flash drive is in one of my test time capsules as we speak (I'll dig it up in one month, maybe, time will tell).
Without getting too long winded. I intend a massive undertaking in Central Florida. I am meeting with some like minded gear heads to start a series of projects we are going to self-finance. What is the point? To preserve and disseminate knowledge about currently legal to own firearms and mechanisms. My group of seven (including me) is varied in its intent as we are also intending to engage in food preservation/storage, greenhouse construction and use, and wild crop rearing. So it's not just guns, but guns will be part of it.
I'm still debating whether or not to first build a 3D printer or buy a CNC engraver. Why a CNC Engraver? Very simple, you can make AK template flats with them. I don't have the CAD specs for one but in the coming months I intend to do one and make it free to the public. I also intent to create a 3D printed bending jig as well. I have the ones I made and a 3D printed one might be possible, I'm going to at least try. How one goes about heat treating the final product is up to them, I have my journal notes on how to do it and how I did it but that one is too dangerous in my opinion on how to do. I don't want to get sued because someone used my instructions. One can figure out heat treating steel for themselves if they really want to, it's not that hard.
Why do I say I am done debating? It's simple. I think we are wasting words debating with antis. I have some non-THR things to say to that but this is about the THR and being respectful and civil. My mother always taught me that actions speak louder than words. And so I intend action that is legal to disseminate knowledge. To do so I must first do it myself. And implore those who have the skill and means, to do so as well.
If we can show the liberals and progressives that the flame of liberty cannot be quashed, that it can go into hiding, and grow even stronger and more fearsome than ever thought possible. We show them that their actions are fruitless. That a blackmarket of arms could easily grow forth from the shadows. So in turn it would simply be smarter to let the market stay in the light as to have some chance of regulating it and diffuse the tempers of those who believe the government has treaded too far on their rights.
To destroy the potential market they would be forced to compromise the first amendment and the property rights of many Americans to own tools and simple machine equipment within their homes.
Let us create a wealth of knowledge that cannot be torn asunder. That can never be quieted. I will be doing what I can from now, no more new gun purchases that don't serve this purpose, no more complaining about the antis (but keep up the rallys and political pressure on the politicians), just build and share, build and share.
I'm going to try and keep this thread up and running with all that I have from my various stashed backup drives that I've collected over the years. Some of it is great upfront stuff, but a lot of it is old stuff that you have to read through to get anything out of of it.
If you're interested in working with me PM me, doesn't matter where you are from, I have host of plans going into motion, one being a website. The rules are simple. Be sane, no talk of revolution or tyrannical government, don't be a criminal or have a criminal history, and don't complain about the antis.
Oh for the AR15 mag go here http://defcad.org/ar-15-magazine-30-round-mag/.
First PDF, from Fox Fire Vol 5. it's a good place to start understanding rudimentary rifling. The Robbins and Lawrence machine is certainly an advance http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L_yemjfgkE0 but this is how it was done once upon a time, it is a good source of wisdom. I tried to attach the PDF but don't seem to be able to, the link to it is http://www.outpost-of-freedom.com/library/index.htm
