I thought it was a cooling fin. It almost always stays cool.

And mannnnnn, that is some rifling twist. I make it one turn in 1/4 inch.

Must be for a bullet a foot long. Maybe two feet.

It's absolutely horrible that many anti-gun people are getting their education on guns from media outlets like this. Then they will try to regurgitate this information in that 'self-righteous' thing liberals do and be totally wrong.

I went through this kind of nonsense before when they were coming after american pitbull terriers, I grew up with those dogs and they're information on the breed was completely and 100% wrong. "those dogs with the locking jaws that kill everything they see, yea, ban those monsters!!" - Christ that bothered me then and their witchhunt on guns bothers me now.

I literally logged into THR to post that very picture. Friend of mine put it up on Facebook. Cited as coming from the Chicago Tribune

Made me laugh ridiculously.

Definition of TRIBUNE
1: a Roman official under the monarchy and the republic with the function of protecting the plebeian citizen from arbitrary action by the patrician magistrates
2: an unofficial defender of the rights of the individual

From:

I've gotten more laughs out of this thread....

You know, a lot of people bash CSI for teaching criminals how to get away with murder.

I wonder if CSI gives criminals a false sense of what the cops can actually do, and thus results in less crime.

The complete lack of knowledge the anti's have almost make me think they were archaelogists in a past life. They have to rename parts (either because they don't know the name or want something more sensational...or they read the description and use that for a name) and then come up with some bizarre understanding of how the weapons work.

I have a fake predalien skull sitting in my condo. I wonder if hundreds of years from now some scientist will find it and take a picture, claiming he's discovered an extinct species.

Anti-gunners sure have a strong sense of conviction about things they know so little about, don't they? I believe that's called prejudice, a word that perhaps we should use more often. If it works for political correctness, which dominates modern-day America, then it may work for us.

Did anyone else notice the text just to the left of the barrel.

Apparently they also believe flash hiders actually make the muzzle flash invisible.

Yeah, well, that 0.25" twist stuck in my mind.

That's not rifling, that's a screw thread --7/32 X 4 TPI. :D

I'm still boggled by the notion that the bullet would be spinning at over 8 million RPM, even at a modest MV of 2800 f/s, if my arithmetic is correct.

Shoot, I don't think even a solid tungsten bullet would hold up under that.

:) Sorry, but that rifling illustration just struck me as hilarious. :)

Those are great. Know what's not funny though?

The media is at war with us, manning the frontlines for Hussein Obama's Administration. The general public and even non-AR-owning shooters are reading those and start to agree: "you don't need no stinkin' bayonet/grenade launcher lug for heaven's sake or even a black gun at all -- ban 'em just to be on the safe side and/or preserve the liberty of whatever they'll let us keep."
