My life is now complete. Checked out the New Columbus, Ohio Cabellas this morning. The store opened Thursday and this is opening weekend.

Never have I seen a single event cause such a traffic nightmare, that was fun! Traffic on I-71 North and south exits were backed onto the interstate. Unbelievable but we managed to get in and with some effort actually parked.

I would like to say at this point that plain old courtesy was at a peak! Ever notice how sports types like hunters, shooters and fisherman always are friendly and courteous?

They had plenty of ammunition and loading supplies, including .223 and all ammo had limits. My brother and I each got our 3 boxes of ammunition. I saw no bulk .223 but overall a good selection. I also grabbed two pounds (the limit) of H4895 since it was there. Plenty of brass and bullets to be had.

New Bushmasters were about $677 much unlike the Gunbroker/Armslist/ Whatever nonsense. A good selection of rifles, shotguns, pistols and revolvers at what I saw as good prices. Once in the gun area I had my own personal gun guy and he was great and a pleasure to talk with. All the prices were normal fair retail prices.

The store is huge and was well stocked. The wife enjoyed just looking at all the displays. Everything we saw was well organized making for a nice visit. Need to return when there isn't 10,000 other people but all things considered it was a good time.

Down here in Columbus for a granddaughter's 9th birthday party so Cabella's grand opening worked out well.

Glad you had a good time. My local Cabelas, in Missouri, is much the same. When it's your turn at the gun counter there's no pressure to get rid of you. Love the place and good customer service as well.

jealous... sounds like better store than bass pro or gander mountain... Houston needs a Cabellas

I worked part time at Gander Mt in the firearms dept. In the four years I was there, first at the Texarkana, then the Sherman, TX store, it really went downhill. High(ish) prices, not enough employees to cover the needs of customers, etc.

The Cabela's in McKinney is great, with great people, but, their stock of both rifles and handguns is maybe 1/3 of what it was six months ago. Same with ammo there. I imagine that that new store got priority as far as stock goes. Hopefully, it will stay well stocked, but, as things are I don't see how for the time being.

My guess is knowing they were looking at a Grand Opening affair they planned well in advance. I was amazed at how huge the place was compared to our local Gander Mountain in Cleveland. My wife just enjoyed looking up. There were trees and you would see for example a mountain lion in a tree. Then the water fall in a woods setting was cool.

On a funny note as we walked in my wife said get a cart and I never did. I should learn to listen to that woman as she knows me better than I know me.OK, now I have two arms loaded with stuff. Store employee comes along and gives me a basket. He told me it was full of 9mm but he never got to the shelves with it so he was going back for more. The entire staff was great. Anyway, they were keeping the shelves stocked. Thought that was cool.

I should have gotten one of those Bushmasters just for the hell of it but don't want one bad enough to go back just yet. :) They also had some DPMS rifles. I was just more focused on the hand guns.

Last weekend I was at the Cabela's in Wichita and while smaller than the huge store in KCK it was easier to get around. Those baskets are handy but, if you find 45 cal Montana bullets on sale, 4 boxes of them, plus the 3 boxes of 32 special ammo, got heavy fast...

The Grand Rapids Michigan Cabella's opens on Monday. I'll avoid it like the plague for at least the first few days. Then I'll stop in and maybe pick through whatever is left.
