New Milt Sparks Versa Max II - Dye Question

I've tried to call the Milt Sparks number a few times to ask, but it's been busy and they don't have an email address that I could find, so I figured I'd ask here...

I bought a VM2 from Alan Yoast (great guy!) a couple days ago. This is my first black, cowhide holster. Is it normal for the dye to rub off when you first get one? Snapping the belt loops leave my fingers all black, and it's rubbing off some on my clothes.

I've mostly been a Crossbreed Super Tuck user, but wanted to try something new for my 1911. Alan had the VM2 in stock when I called, so I bit. It's a very sharp looking holster...a shame it's hidden IWB! It's not super comfortable yet, but I think it will be once broken in. I just hope the dye issue goes away.

I have never had that problem, and I have owned three so far (all have been black).

Sounds like the insides of your snaps may not have been "sealed" by the finish that goes over the dye. I'd contact them. I've never has a problem with "bleeding", or rub off from the finished holster.

I have 4 VMII's and never a problem with stain coming off.

I had one from a different maker that did the same thing, but worse than what you are describing. It stained my shirt. I had to send it back.

Dye issue

Go to Tandy and get some stuff called Resolene. It's an acrylic sealer for leather. Use some kiwi polish in a can, apply with a piece of old T-shirt; buff your holster real, real good, go over it with a piece of clean old T-shirt to make sure you've polished "in" all the polish, then apply a light coat of Resolene with a small foam brush; strokes all in one direction. Allow it to dry for about 24 hours. No more dye bleeding through.

It came from Alan Yoast, so it's legit. It seems to have mostly stopped. It was just the straps part not the holster. It's getting broken in...very comfy already.
