Does Remington make an 870 with a factory pistol grip, like Mossberg?

I don't have any care for standalone pistol grips personally, I am just making a certain project for a friend.

They say they don't if you email them, but they do have a PG in their police line. In certain states the bbl can be cut shorter than 18" if the OAL is still 26." Only on factory PGs or others 1st built as a PG, & not in Texas, sigh.

Their website sucks, can't be viewed in Firefox, & they lock you out of their LE site, so you can't actually see the model # you want.

Are you looking to make an AOW with an 870? If so you can't get them from the factory that way anymore which limits you to going the SBS route. They did at one time because you see legal serbu AOWs that are build on 870s but I don't think you can get one factory with a pistol grip anymore. Not even Remington LE or Remington Defense lists a pistol grip aside from the MCS package which a civie could likely never get their hands on.

+1 for the Knoxx recoil reducing. Get the one with the AR-styled butt, not the folding one. the folding one is junk, but the AR style is hands down perfection on a pump.

Both the remington.com and remingtonle.com websites worked fine with Firefox two mintes ago.

They do show a PGO. It is a breacher with 10" barrel.

Hey backbencher, by chance you wouldn't know what states you can cut the barrel back. Sure would like to wack off my 870's barrel - I think it would make a nice HD gun with a verrry short barrel as long as 26 inches are kept like you say.

I was building an 870 for a friend, such as the shockwave technologies Mossberg 500 with the 14" barrel. I can't stand Mossbergs, I guess I'll just have to haggle with Remington. I am not going AOW, or SBS, or any other NFA.

Does the law consider a brand new 870 action a shotgun, or PGW like other factory pistol gripped shotguns?

After having a knoxx and then upgrading to the Mesa recoil reducing buffer tube, I can honestly say that the knoxx stock is junk in comparison. Its no where near as well made and it doesnt work as well. Knoxx uses springs and the Mesa (which I believe is actually made by enidine) uses a hydraulic system. The mesa was much more effective and allowed my 115lb 4'11 girlfriend to shoot 100+ full powered slugs and buck in one day with no discomfort.

Unfortunately the only version of the 870 that Remington ever made (as far as I know) with a PGO from the factory is the MCS system which comes with a 10" barrel from the factory and as such is an AOW right from the start. So I guess that's out for you.

I've had thoughts of building one of those non-NFA 14" shotguns myself and just like you, i just didn't want to go with a Mossberg. I've looked into pretty much all the alternatives and I'm afraid Mossberg is really the only ones that make PGO shotguns from the factory.

Now a never-assembled "virgin" 870 receiver would qualify but that would be about as hard to find as an actual factory PGO 870. Remember, just because the guy on Gunbroker says it's a "brand-new" virgin receiver doesn't mean he didn't just strip apart an assembled Remington that already had a stock on it at one point or another. And if some cop REALLY wants to verify what that particular serial number left the factory as, you may have a very bad day.
The way places like Serbu make AOW 870s is by buying the aforementioned MCS package and converting it to their Super-Shortys.

jag, no I don't have a list - I just know Texas ain't on it. You might check w/ the folks that sell the birds head grips, or just go read your state's laws.

If you're going w/ a PG shotgun, I highly recommend an 870 Youth w/ the 21" bbl, a full choke, an extension tube, & the Pachmayr 12 ga grip w/ the top rib trimmed down w/ your pocket knife to fit the 20 ga frame. It's quite a handy gun, and apparently folks who are looking down the bbl can't tell what gauge it is. The recoil's not bad either.

Well for the time being I'll just leave the old 870 just as it is. I'll just have to rely on the 1911.
