St. Louis Gun Shops

I don't remember the name, but there was this amazing gunshop near the airport (at least there was 7 years ago) that was a Colt collector's dream. It was across from the WalMart and beside the Picadilly Cafeteria and is a narrow building with the standard 2 plate glass windows and glass door front.

It sounds like it could be Trail Creek Trading Co. They are close to the airport.

You are correct.

I myself find Ultimate Defense to be supreme.

I’ve got an itch for a CZ75. Are there any strong CZ dealers in St. Louis? I haven’t found any in my neighborhood (St Peters).

I'd check M&M guns in old town St. Peters. All of their stock is depleted right now after all of the panic buying but he has the best cash prices in this area.

It's been a few months. Most of the madness I guess has faded and it sounds like places are starting to get stocked again. I haven't been out to area shops since the 1st week of January, really just staying away from it all. Has anyone been out recently and could help us all out on availability and pricing of AR parts and Accessories? Would love to find a reasonably priced lower to begin my (long-term)build.

Thanks!

I stopped by M&M in St Peters last week. They did show some signs of getting inventory in. But the store was jam packed on a weekday.

Patience, we're not there yet.

I'm trying to be patient. Just getting harder to do so. With more states falling to the politics it's only a matter of time until Illinois starts starts its own push. If I can at least find the minimum then I should be good.

Still a good idea to get a gauge on the area. Have been reading in other forums about how other places are starting to show signs of life.

I will second this motion! Great little shop! I've bought several from there and you can't beat his prices. Not sure if he is still doing "waiting lists" for specific items - but he will order in something specific if you want. They have a Facebook page as well and will sometimes put up their deals on there. I know the other day they had several guns on special sale - stuff that they had multiples of... And YES they are busy - so if you go just be patient!

M&M seems to have decent service but I have always found their prices a bit high.

Best chance of finding a CZ on a whim is probably Grafs, they usually have a couple in the case at all times. If you are willing to wait, Dunn's in Pevely can order direct from CZ and I have found their prices across the board are generally $20-40 better than most shops in town.

In my view M&M has the best customer service in the area. They start out low on prices, but will go lower still if you pay in cash. If you are buying a used gun, they point out all the flaws before you buy it.

I would ask for a price for M&M to order one for you. Let us know if you were able to find it cheaper anywhere else.

Only been to M&M once, small place but they were very courteous and the environment was welcoming. Would go back if the drive wasn't so far. probably go through as much in gas for the two trips I would have to make thanks to Illinois bureaucracy, as I would in savings.

Anybody know about Trojan arms in troy,il? Think that's the name.

I'm looking to get an FNX-45. Does anyone know a good FN dealer in St. Louis, besides Cabela's?

Oh, and American Arms Co. or something like that is now open on Manchester in the shopping center between Highview and Hilsdale (~ 3/4 of a mile east of Clarkson). They are on facebook and have been open since October or so of last year. I stopped in last week to check the place out and was told they are building an indoor range a bit to the east of them. Nice guys, but their guns were all priced at MSRP as far as I could tell.

I have posted here about LGS before, but without a doubt, Dunn's in Pevely is by far the best. Large selection and prices that are around, or lower than, online stores like Bud's.

They also almost always have cases of ammo - .357, .45, 9mm, 40, etc..

Just bought my wife a LCP (new, updated version) for $299. And the ammo prices are good too. IMHO, nobody else is even close.

I know ultimate defense in St. Peter's had a couple of FNX-45s in black and one in dessert tan last time
I was in there. Might want to give them a call.

There's also Ruby's Guns in the shopping center right at the intersection of Manchester & Clarkson. Pretty much right next door to Lukas Liqour, a large-ish liquor & wine store with good top-shelf stuff (and plenty of everyday stuff, too).

I found Ruby's by accident going to Lukas' looking for some good Irish Whiskey for the family St. Patrick's day get together.

There's also Defensor Tactical now in Valley Park, in the same shopping center that On Target used to be in.

High Country Shooting Sports

Stopped to refill the car the other day in Cedar Hill, MO, about 30 miles out Hwy 30.

Across the street was a nice, clean brick building--an open gun store.

They were new to me, and they have been in business for around a year. Their inventory included some of the top shelf S&W revolvers and 1911 models, all new stuff. I liked the guy behind the counter that day, a retired city police officer who goes back to the days when officers carried Colt and Smith .38s.

The next day I drove back out and picked up a Pro Series L Frame revolver.

This place has a fairly decent selection of accessories, but the prices on the firearms are high (some over MSRP).

What did they have? Anything used? I'm going to be in that area tomorrow, so I might stop by.

I thought I would post this for anyone looking for a new Ruger LCP. I went today and bought another one from Dunn's - now for $279.99. I don't work for these folks, or have a horse in the race......just a great deal.

I live in Illinois near St. Louis and was shopping at two local stores today. One is part of a regional chain, the other is a fairly new "sporting goods store". This store has ammo, guns, reloading supplies, some archery equipment, and a lot of fishing supplies. BOTH stores are starting to get some ammo back in but the prices are outlandish!

The new store had Hornady FTX 110 gr in .357 at $25/20 rds. and Eley .22LR HP's for $7.25/50 rds.!!!

Rural King wasn't any better. Remington Golden bulk .22LR was $22/225 rds. :what: and 158 gr JSP in .357 was $35/50 rds.

I passed on it all - for now.

Omnibus review (really long)

Okay, I have done my best to evaluate as many local shops as I possibly can. I have excluded large retail shops because I prefer to spend my money at local places. These evaluations are obviously subjective and limited to my experience (and, as such, they may differ from your experiences), but they are made in a concerted good-faith effort to provide a basic overview of local shops. I think I tend to be biased toward shops with large inventories, so take that into consideration.

I have been to all of them here, some of them repeatedly, on a quest for a Smith 627. The quest has proven fruitless, but I have a pretty huge basis for comparative evaluation.

If anyone has more to add, feel free to send me a PM. I will add the review and give you the credit.

I've been to several of these shops. You did a nice job of compiling the info here. I have to say however - that M&M in old town St Peters deserves at least a "recommended" rating. I have bought several guns from them since they opened. The shop is small - but very well stocked - and moves a TON of guns. Prices are better then any of the "big box" sporting goods stores - and as good or better then most others. And he will give you a discount for paying cash. He has ammo and magazines in there that you can't find even online. And cheaper in some cases. If you are looking for something specific - let them know and they will try to find it for you. A lot to be said for a small family run shop - where they know you by name....

I just visited Arcadia Sporting Goods last Thursday (8/8/13) and found not one but two KelTec KSG shotguns (one came home with me).

The prices were a tad higher than MSRP, but for a small country store/gas station/gun & archery store in a rural setting, they weren't unreasonable, and the staff are super nice.

I picked up my KSG for $1,128 w/tax; I've seen better (when I've even seen a KSG!), and I've also seen a LOT worse, esp. on places like GunBroker, etc.
