Every Day Carry...

No pic yet. EDC items include Kel-Tec PF9 in Tagua OWB belt-slide holster (open-top), folding patrol/rescue knife (one-hand open, with glass punch and belt-cutter), badge case w/ ID and EMS shield, two sets of keys (with keys to each of three vehicles and my house on each), cellphone (with camera), and pocket money. At night, or if I'm expected to be out 'til after dark, a small 50-lumen flashlight usually tags along.

Need to start carrying a spare mag, but having a hard time finding a suitable pouch.

The headphones are for studying/running on the treadmill, I never wear them in a situation where I would be in condition orange.

As for the knife, my grandfather gave it to me and told me to carry it every day, so I do

Sounds like a good reason to me, too!

Me too. My Grandfather told me when my feet were cold, to put on a hat.

He also let my brother and I ride on the tailgate on the way to the town dump, when my Mom and Grandmother told him not to.

It was great being able to grow into manhood, when society let you.

Those sound like some memorable experiences with your grandfather. I wish I knew mine better, he was a Korean war vet and a good man. I saw him often but he never talked much with me (or anyone for that matter) and was not particularly interested in me. His sons, with the exception of my father, had encountered a lot of problems with school, crime etc. and he was tired of raising boys by the time I came along. He did, however, have a vast gun and knife collection, which certainly must be where I got my love for the firearms hobby, as no one else in my immediate family is into guns.

That article is bull-oney.

I agree the 1911 in any incarnation is not the greatest fighting pistol. Good thing we are carrying for defense then and not for the inevitable showdown at the OK.

I guess what I carry for defense is merely a novelty item.

Glock does NOT have a Lifetime warranty either.....(which Was "the point") RIA does

Ken Hackathron:

At one point Hackathorn asked, “Who here does not own a 1911?” I was the only person to raise my hand (I think I got booed). He jokingly said, “Damn it, aren’t you a Patriot!?” He went on to say, “The 1911 is the finest close combat weapon ever and it is the king of the feed way stoppage.” Hackathorn has a lovehate relationship with 1911s it would appear!

While there was much discussion about guns in the class, his comments are boiled down to, “Get a Glock Model 19 Generation 3.”

I would rather the OP have your revolver than the 1911. Don't get me wrong I think 1911 are the most enjoyable pistols to shoot. But I wouldn't carry one over a glock. Every week I shoot uspsa and on the weekends idpa or a steal match. And the guys I see having the most gun problems are running the inexpensive to expensive 1911 usually a magazine feed lips due to wear or the extract has loss tension due to wear, way faster than the glocks. Another issue I see are guys who swear to shot a 1911 for years at a static in door range but once you add stress of being time and movement and reloads forget to disengage the safety.

And many of us won't carry a glock to each his own!

The 1911 has more than proved itself in LEO and combat situations,(including two world wars) I trust my RIA GI 1911 A1 100% it has shown me that I can. A 1911 takes more care, but I care for ALL my weapons on a regular basis, for those who don't, I would still push an M&P over a Glock for several reasons. YMMV

Yeah it proved itself in two world wars but by your logic your saying the US military should still be using M1 Garands from WWII instead of ARs. More LEOs use glocks than any other weapon for a reason.

I can respect you carrying a 1911, I support anyone who chooses to carry, I think this world would be a better and safer place if every able law abiding citizen carried.

But the OP asked me to critique so I did. The 1911 takes someone who is going to put in the work to maintain the pistol a lot more than a glock requires (for example making sure the extract is within spec). I know guys who carry an extra extract that had to be tuned tuned by a gunsmith to the right tension, to major matches just in case. If my glock goes down at a major match and I didn't have a spare extractor on me I could run to any gun store and probably pick one up no tuning by a smith required. Most people don't put in that time and dedication.

Yeah, those M&Ps are so great, which is why everyone is buying apex trigger systems to replace the stock trigger the gun comes with.

Most days nothing fancy, nothing matching, and no plastic gun unless my Kel Tec PF9 is riding ankle.

Only plastic are the scales on my Case Stockman and grips on my Colt Commander. RafterS shark skin belt, Uncle mikes elcheapo mag pouch, Tex Shoemaker belt slide.

I can fancy things up some when I'm in the mood. :D

Economics play a larger role in procurement of firearms in state, city and township municipalities, rather than whats stamped on the slide.

As someone who has owned both, this is like comparing which port-a-potty smells better the Blue one or the Yellow one...

Since this has turned into a picture thread I'll add a couple. This is my current off duty/EDC gun, it's a Novak/Joe Bonar custom Colt 1991A1 Commander. Of course, it is accompanied by the usual array of pocket stuff - knife, keys, phone, etc - they just didn't make it into these pics.
