Ammunition To Go used to be a great place to find premium JHP ammo like Gold Dots and HST in 50 round boxes for reasonable prices. These days, not so much. My recently acquired P7M8 only likes 124gr ammo (gas piston wasn't designed for 147gr), so I can't use any of the 147gr JHP I have laying around. I'm looking to pick up several hundred rounds of 124gr Gold Dots or HST, just so I have enough to thoroughly test reliability in both my P7M8 and my PPS.

Are there any police supply or other websites out there that still have 50-round boxes of premium JHP in stock?

Thanks in advance!

I think "bulk" and "premium" are kinda mutually exclusive.

do you handload? That would likely be the best route. Even in today's crazy ammo world

Not really. Component supplies evaporated after all the ammunition was gone, but there's very little of it available unless you shoot black powder or 50 caliber such as the Barrett's shoot.

I just ordered a set of 44 Special dies and found them on only two websites. Those sites that specialize in hand loading supplies and equipment are beginning to post the same type disclaimers other sites have had up for weeks.

Primers, powder, brass and jacketed pistol bullets are simply not available for the most part. Of course you do [rarely] find the components you seek, but a rare find does not lend itself to starting or maintaining a hobby. Supplies will come back, but like the last time it's going to take time.

I've been loading my own since 1970 and I'm "religious" at keeping my components stocks up. That also includes lead alloy since I cast easily 95% of the bullets I shoot. But I have gun club buddies I'd call "casual loaders". They're crying like all the ammunition hunters since they never stocked anything basically.

components are hard to get hold of too now - that I am painfully aware of. I should have given the caveat that in my area components have been easier to secure than manufactured ammo. Not that it's been easy at all - just easier than the alternative.

Buy all you can and smile when you hear about ammunition shortages.

Since your interested in shooting the "Good Stuff", so to speak, you should really consider reloading. I can load Gold Dots for $15 per 50 box without even looking for a good price on components. And if I'm bargain shopping for the components, I can get that price down significantly. Generally I just load a bunch of Nosler JHP's to practice with, and then I save enough of the Gold Dot to carry with.

Disagree..

I think that's what causing most of them.
So if you walked into your favorite X-Mart store and there were ammunition boxes on the shelf, you'd back away and not buy what they'd sell you? You feel you need to buy "several hundred" rounds of ammunition, but you'd not buy what you felt you needed? That's a most admirable position and I genuinely admire your commitment to holding down the supposed panic buying. But in the stores where reality lands all around your feet, that just simply isn't happening. Is it right? I have no idea. Does panic buying cause shortage? Maybe so, but if you look at the financial statements of those companies supplying ammunition, components and guns you'll find their stock holders are smiling all the way to the bank. And that's a major part of the capitalistic free enterprise system this country was founded upon and so many of us hold dear.

We all are just trying to get through the day and make it home at night. In the end, pretty much everything is a compromise and nothing is ever the ideal world we'd all dream it to be.

I had PSP and thankfully sold it for good price before surplus ones hit these shores. If it's not too late take the P7 back and get your money back. The gun is heavy with only eight shot magazines and since it's out of production parts will be difficult to obtain. Nine millimeter Luger ammo will be difficult to find in quantity for good while as well. Not a good purchase imo.

Not really. We've been networking to alert each other when components are in stock (but they do sell out fast) and have been able to find most components/reloading equipment, even 9mm component bullets and some primers at very reasonable prices - http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?p=8869797#post8869797

LOL. Thanks for your input, but I will be keeping my P7M8 for a loooooong time. :)

Yes I backed away. In fact, I completely stopped checking on the ammo situation at my local Wally World.

I'm currently shooting 'safety stocks' built up over the last 5 years at a much, much slower pace than normal.

And 'yes' I'm convinced survivalist and hoarders, fanned by the shooting sports industry, have brought this situation down on all of us.

I agree with you. Much of this is being caused by folks going out and buying it all up in a (misdirected) bid to "get rich quick" by selling it at two and three times the original price.

The sooner folks stop freakin' out and paying these ridiculous prices for ammo, the sooner this "bubble" will pop and we can get back to "normal"- whatever the heck that is.

Hi. I am currently working on my doctorate in economics. If someone would like to state one more time that it isn't the hoarders, I will gladly take you to task on your misunderstanding of supply and demand.

I will even draw up a graph for you so you can stop being wrong. :)
