A detailed discussion of strategies being used by gun control supporters as well as a list of politicians they are trying to target. There were a couple of key quotes I thought were worth sharing:

“They (politicians) need to know they have defied the will of the people, and that their cold calculation that there is more intensity on the gun-nut side is wrong,” said Cliff Schecter, a liberal strategist who advocates for tougher gun laws.* "We are in the process of showing them that. And we intend to continue.”

“Losing a vote on a 90-10 issue has only pissed people off,” Glaze said Thursday, referring to polls that put support for universal background checks around 90 percent. “They’ll go as long as they need to go.”

They are betting that there are more gun control supporters who can match or exceed the intensity of those who support the Second Amendment. They are counting on gun owners to sit silent and do nothing.

You know they won't quit. We need to make it clear that we won't, either, and make it clear that we'll "link" their other progressive efforts to gun control. In other words broaden the political efforts of the 2A and gun lobby to oppose/defeat and frustrate their agenda.

Total war. (Politically)

The delicious irony is of course the big fat yawn from the general public which is FAR more interested in why they're paying $4.00/gal. for gas, their health insurance premiums are on the way to doubling (or their coverage is being terminated) and why their kid is NEVER going to have a decent job... and THEY might not again either.

There's more public concern over bigfoot and UFOs than gun control, and all of the media lies and cooked polls in the world can't change that.

Their insurmountable obstacle (except in VERY localized environments like New York) is that they're no longer the only voice being heard. EVERY time they try something, the call goes out on the internet to gather the opposition. I'm sure they'd like to stop that by force, but that would GUARANTEE a shooting war.

A few years ago, one of them organized a rally against a local pro-concealed carry politician in a park in Independence, Ohio. Gun owners found out, put out the word on the internet and beat her to the scene of her own demonstration, outnumbering her supporters by AT A MINIMUM 5-10:1. We so thoroughly swamped them that the local media couldn't get a picture of the anti-gunners without getting one of our signs in frame. The knife was then twisted when John Lott showed up unannounced and the media literally trampled the antis into the ground rushing to the other side of the park to interview him.

They can ONLY win if they suppress opposing voices. That's EXCEPTIONALLY difficult now, and getting harder all of the time.

We need to get the politicians that support the 2A to start playing the game the way the Democrat party does. We need to have bill after bill after bill (-for example: mandating firearm ownership, giving tax breaks to firearm owners, government agreements to purchase excess ammunition reloaded by private individuals, mandatory firearm training in public high schools-)anything they can think of that requires the left to combat the effort ready to be introduced in both the house and the senate.
It doesn't matter whether the bill goes anywhere or not. Just the constant presence of pro gun legislation will wear the weenies out.
We've put up with this for decades. Everytime the Democrats get one of their gun-grabs rejected they have another, usually even more ridiculous, waiting in the wings.
Turn the table on these clowns and let them fight a "pro gun creep" for awhile.

Exactly! The more rounds we see of this garbage coming to a vote the more the public is getting pissed that they have wasted time dealing with real issues. They wasted 4 months for the first vote.

Personally, I wonder if it's not a bad thing with those currently in power wasting time. They may do more harm focusing on other areas.

I understand your frustration based on where you live, but mandating anything is just as bad as what the other side is proposing. Government should be neutral on the issue and stay out of it either way.

We've put up with this for decades.

Again based on where you live you are correct, however nation wide we have had constant gains over the last decades. I'll sound like a broken record but the NRA (us the people who belong) represents the best ability to make progress. If you're not a member please join.

They're not wasting time at all--they're deliberately using gun control to keep us from seeing their real agenda.

Democrat Party strategists are deceptively smart; they don't tackle an issue they know is a loser unless they're doing it to provide cover for some other thing. IMHO, they used Sandy Hook to leverage gun control as a mis-direction while they figured out how to make sure nobody ever gets held accountable for Benghazi, to distract us from what they're doing in cahoots with various radical Muslim-led governments, and to silently use the regulatory power of Executive Branch agencies to do what they know they can't achieve through legislation.

Do you remember how they avoided having any real news coverage of Fast and Furious? Have you noticed how the continuing coverage of the Boston Marathon bombing goes on and on while avoiding holding anyone accountable for the many federal government failures that are coming to light? Or that we're getting virtually no coverage of the Gosnell trial? Democrats and their media comrades know gun control is a lost cause, but they also know it holds a fair amount of public interest. As long as it continues to do so, they'll keep using it as a smokescreen.

I can agree with that Beatledog. I have been saying also that the liberals know they weren't going to get an AWB or a HCMB . However, they were hoping to sneak a UBC through which would be way more important to the anti gun agenda. This would have gotten their foot in the door for registration.

I love how they keep saying "we don't want to take your guns away". Which is stupid b/c if they didn't then they wouldn't be bringing ban bills to the floor for a vote or UBC bills. I don't trust any of them no matter which party they represent. The R's are seeing a loss of support too. We are tired of their halfass candidates they keep pushing on us. The R base is leaning more towards liberty and freedom than just the basic conservative views. Every piece of anti gun legislation seems garner support from the R's even if its just a few its still getting support.

Love your use of the adjective "frenzied". Disturbing insight into my childish mind perhaps, but this was the image that popped immediately into my head:

They almost seem like they have real voices and thoughts, don't they? But when they get this irrational, you can tell it's just someone's hand up their backside.

I wonder? Was it really a 90-10 issue or was this a made up pipe dream of the anti's? My guess is it was made up. I also supect the members of the Senate voted to reflect the letters and calls from thier voter base.

Think about the 90-10 quote. Could you get 90% of Americans to agree that a patty of ground meat on a bun is a hamburger? I doubt it. It's not a hamburger unless it has ketchup, pickle, letteuce, onion, and tomato on it. What? NO mayonnaise?

Think about it.

I totally agree with you Schutzen. If they said, "majority of Americans" and said "56%" I would have thought that maybe, they did an actual survey. 90%? Not a chance.

The 90% constantly quoted by them was a Washington Post (I believe) poll of 1000 people in their near perfect demographic. It is a VERY suspect number even at that, since they have repeatedly taken down polls that didn't reflect what they wanted and tried to manipulate reports of public support.

They also don't seem to realize that while support for/against is pretty evenly split, those of us against gun control are much more invested in, educated about, passionate about and active against than their constituents. For every "Yeah, sure," they get, we give a "HELL NO!!!"

This. The antis pick the most extreme poll to quote their number. It's blatantly bogus, and members of congress are not swayed. They know what their constituents want, and its NOT more gun control.

Was it really a 90-10 issue or was this a made up pipe dream of the anti's?

While I really doubt validity the polls that resulted in the 90-10 numbers on background checks, at the very least, I suspect that the numbers were cherry picked from a larger set of questions and results.

The folks quoting the 90-10 numbers did not include the "but..." in their quotes.

Now, perception becomes reality as the gun control folks will not admit their error and quote more accurate information.

It's "frenzied" in the same way as that demonstration in Pakistan from whence the famous photo of the Islamist accidentally setting his own hair on fire derives. It's hysterical, irrational and ultimately self-defeating.

This is a DESPERATION move, a sort of legislative "banzai charge". And we know how banzai charges ALWAYS turned out when those on the receiving end didn't panic and shouldered their Remington Model 11 trench guns and B.A.R.s...

We would all do well to make a note of any public figure using 90-10 on this issue from now on. The constant, unrelenting repetition of this thoroughly dubious statistic is pure propaganda, if not some Orwellian Newthink hypnosis. I will not trust anyone (who should know better) who attempts to use this figure on any issue going forward.

The current obsession for poll figures among politicians has nothing to do with serving the interests of their constituents, and everything to do with justifying their actions, and convincing their electorate that they asked for it in the first place

At first I though the 90% figure was so ridiculous it would be quickly forgotten. But it seems this is to be the new "big lie" in the gun debate, as 40% of "loophole" sales has been for the last 20 years. We really shouldn't bother trying to discount this figure; as we saw with the 40%, it doesn't accomplish anything since they keep repeating it on sympathetic media channels regardless.

This. The anti's were far more worrisome when they kept their hair-fires in check and rationally produced junk legislation. Now that they've been rebuffed, they will fall back to billionaires, bullies, and bobble-heads to do their dirty work. Oh, and they'll be relying upon mass murderers more than ever, too

They are a loud minority supported by mainstream media. If the media gave us a fair shake, gun control would be a DOA proposal each time it was brought up. The good news is that every member of THR was calling, emailing and getting the word out grassroots style on this latest go around, right? We must be our own citizen-led effort to fight these tyrants.

No opinions have gone from 4% to 1%. The gun banners are desperate. Which might make them more dangerous to our rights. UK gun bans succeeded because the gun owners (a minority) stayed quiet while the even smaller minority of the gun control network were very very loud and sought the medias' ears.

I believe SabbathWolf was illustrating the point made in post #11.

I for one like bacon and a fried egg on my hamburger. Adding cheese or mayonnaise at that point would be wrong. Tomato, lettuce, and mustard round it out.

Try getting 90% of America to agree on a type of mustard, Mr. President.

The 90% stat they were all parroting is/was a blatant lie by media, Dem politicians, and anti (legal) gun activists. The real poll has been happening in the gun shops all over America. People voting with what counts, their hard earned dollars to buy guns, and ammo in unprecedented numbers, and this includes many women, and first time gun owners, not just "gun enthusiasts".

The next 4 years will be crucial for us gun owners in this country. If we get a democratic congress in 2014 or 2016, and get Hillary to occupy the White House in 2016, we are for.
